Guest guest
|| Hare Rama Krishna || Dear Suchitra-ji, Namaskar. Nice question but failed logic. Let me explain why. 1. In this group we discuss the astrological knowledge as handed down by Parasara. Your referred website apparently follows the same. Hence, they take 4H as matrubhava. Correct ? Then using Maharshi Parasara's given knowledge, they use 7H as darabhava. Correct? Then again they oppose that Maharshi Parasara is wrong is stating that 9H is pitrubhava. Which cannot be correct as they are denying the hypothesis that Parasara is correct, which they starting assuming to be correct in the first place. 2. Next let me ask why they aren't starting by taking 9H as pitrubhava and then from the 9H take the 7th from it i.e. the 3H and say that it is the matrubhava !?! So they are making assumptions (starting with 4H = mother) and trying to apply their logic! 3. 9H is the house of dharma and 4H is the house of happiness. We learn/receive the dharma from the father and happiness and comfort from the mother. So you can look at this way why 9H is pitrubhava and 4H is matrubhava. 4. 7H is not just for wife. It is for all other relations outside our blood relations. It also stands for our communicative relations, people we work with, business parters etc. Upapada Lagna (UL) and its lord shows the marital relationship of a person. 5. Bhava/sign shows a situation and not a person. So 4H and 9H shows motherly and fatherly relationships. Their lords will show mother and father. There are also karakas for mother and father, namely charamatrukaraka and charapitrukaraka. As Guru Sanjay-ji has expressly stated, no matter what invented logic is there, try to stick to Maharshi Parasara. Please read Brihat Parasara Hora Sashtra and undersand the principles from there. I have had similar bad experiences when I tried to learn from website's of ppl. Now, I only stick to shashtras and books by authorities. Hope this helps. I expect learned guru's and members will give further inputs. Guest guest
Dear Suchitra Your Website reference is indeed correct -- thanks, it's full of interesting things, notably Hindou and astrological perspective on Christianity. In the section on bhava, it does indeed give father as 10th house, which I've often found in Indian astrology writings based on North Indian traditions. On this list most members seem to favour the 9th, but I definitely find the 10th works better for me (perhaps as a Westerner), and seems more coherent (as you say, 7th from 4). Often, I've heard it explained that since in South Indian culture especially the father is also the guru, 9th should be used, whereas in the West the two functions are usually separate: the father is more the one who pushes you out into the world and your career, and encourages to act on your own initiative (10th house). I was also interested in your comment about the 9th being the maternal uncle, who you say is sometimes also the husband/father in South India, you say. Thanks Graham vedic astrology, Suchitra Kamath <suchitra_kamath> wrote: > Hello All, > > I keep reading different verdicts on which is the house of father. Some say 9 , some 10.I came across an interesting article on ( if I am not wrong abt the website) > > www.jyotishvidya.com and it gives good logic on why house of father is 10 house.(7th from 4th etc-husband of mother) > > Also why 9 house as father clicks in some cases as in south India woman is married to maternal uncle in many cases so 6th from 4th (=9th) would be father. > > However in this forum when learned Gurus refer to 9 as house of father I get confused. Some say since father is guru and Guru is seen from 9th -it should be 9th....... > > Please advise!!! > > Regards > Suchitra > > > > > Make your home page
Guest guest
Dear Suchitra Just to clarify -- the 9th is the house not of maternal uncle, but of the grand-uncle (the brother of the maternal grandmother). Are or were marriages to the maternal grandmother's brother common in South India? Guest guest
Dear Suchitra I'm very sorry, I was getting confused between the maternal uncle of the native and the maternal uncle of his mother. As you say, the the 9th house represents the maternal uncle of the mother. But I am still interested that you say "in some cases as in south India woman is married to maternal uncle": if this is or was true, it could, as you suggest, explain the use of 9th for native's father. It also makes me wonder whether, apart from the usual "father=guru" explanation for this house meaning, there could just possibly be the remnants here of a pre-Vedic matriarcal tradition. I've read that in matriarcal societies, the biological father was often absent, unimportant or unknown, and the "fatherly" role in child-raising fell to the maternal uncle, though he was not the actual father of the child.
