Guest guest
Dear Group Members, Does anyone have any ideas as to the underlying symbolic or astronomical logic behind the traditional classification of rashis as Shirshodaya (head-rising: rashis 3,5,6,7,8,11); Prishtodaya (hind- rising: 1,2,4,9,10) and Ubhayodaya (both ends rising: 12)? Looking in the sky at the rising of the constellations corresponding to these rashis (using the traditional Egyptian/Greek/Western and I think Indian way of "connecting" the stars into constellations), it is clear that the visibly apparent head-rising rashis are in fact Mesha, Simha, Kanya, Thula, Vrischika, Dhanu and Makara; the hind-rising rashis appear to be only Vrishabha and Karka; the indeterminate-rising ones appear to be Mithuna, Kumbha and Meena. Do you think the traditional classification is based on something else than the apparent rising of the configurations in the sky? Many thanks for any guidance Graham Fox
