Savana year/savana day

Dear Chandrashekhar,

Sorry, of course I meant sunrise-to-next-day's sunrise (not to

sunset, which would only be half a day). I was just intrigued that

you said there was "another solar day" also in use for 360-day-year,

as well as the variable "savana day", and I wondered if this

other "Vedic solar day" was the same as one of the fixed "sidereal

days" sometimes used in astronomy or in Western astrological

progressions (either the time taken for a single rotation of the

earth, ie. slightly less than 24h; or the time taken for a fixed

star to return to same position in right ascension, ie. slightly

more than 24h).

I understand all the different options for the YEAR available in JH

via the right click (savana, 365.2425, 360°, 360 tithis). But there

is no option for choosing a different type of DAY for the dasas. I

have checked the calculations, and the day used is in fact the 24h

mean clock-time day.

Thanks for your help. I now have many usful leads to follow up.

Dear Graham,

I too thought that it was a typographical error. You have apparently,

very good astronomical knowledge. There are two variations of Solar

day, one being what is known as Sidereal and other Equinautical.

I am not great at astronomy, but would think that choosing the right

year would mean that calculations would be based on the corresponding

day, Year being a sum total of a day, whether 360 or 365 and odd,

depending on the year chosen.

However you may like to seek advise of Narasimha on this matter, he

being well versed in astronomy. Savana day being variable, standard 60

Ghaties is taken as the mean time of Savana day, as far as I know.
