Sorry to but in at

this stage. The Aitereya Brahmana and others are very good sources and we

wonder what they called the day. Was it the solar degree that defines the

zodiac, then the definition of the year that I use is the 360 degree sidereal

motion of the Sun God...I say Sun God for He defines the Samvatsara and the

rasi by His movement in the Bha chakra. Thats the reason you will find the

option of 360 Degree solar motion year. I think other than myself Mridula

Trivedi and a few astrologers also follow the Sun god in His definition of the

samvatsara.

Dear Chandrashekhar and all,

I have checked the calculations for dasas in JH

and Parashara's

Light software, and the day-length used for dasas

is simply the mean

24-hour clock time day (not the savana or the sidereal

day). This is

of course no problem, as it all averages out over

a few months, and

with dasas we are not trying to time events to the

minute.

JH offers many options for allowing 360 day years

for nakshatra

dasas, but 365.25 days for other types of periods

and varshaphal.

For calculation of ghatis elapses, etc, there are

also options for

defining the local day as starting at sunrise

(default) or at a

cosntant "mean" time of 6am.

Very good, I have read my self the Narada Purana Y'day

night and thought of giving the refernce to the list today,

but forgot to bring the Volume reference. So thanks for the

Now the question comes to my mind is:

Shall I continue using the 360 Degree Solar years based on the

Dear Swee,

Thank you for the clear quote and translation (very helpful for non-

Sankritists!). I now understand better the quotes given in other

messages. However, I don't see why this quote should necessarily

imply that you shouldn't use 360 day year for dasas: of course, the

motion of planets is measured by solar-measure (degrees). But dasas

are not the same as the motion of planets. Once we've established

the position of the Moon at birth, the dasa is triggered and follows

it's own progression, irrespective of motion of planets, no?

In Narada Purana, it gives us an indication of when Kali Yuga started during

Krishna Trayodashi in the month of Nabasya.
