Guest guest
Namaste friends, As I stated earlier, I am very respectful of other Jyotish software makers and do not want appreciation for my act of giving an advanced Jyotish software for free to turn into disrespect and insensitivity towards the contributions of others. > On the other hand negative impact, if any, will be on a very few software > vendors who are already very prosperous. I don't know if this is correct and, in any case, it is none of our business. If somebody became prosperous by selling Jyotish software, it is not immoral or adharmik. I don't think any kind of monsterization is called for here. If my act of making Jagannatha Hora free hurts somebody, it is bad karma on my part and I will have to pay for it (and I will be happy to do so). There is no need to justify it by monsterizing others. It is wrong. Other vendors are honorable and intelligent people who deserve our respect. If I hurt somebody, I am doing so because of my calculation that it is good overall. I will enjoy the blessings from the good karma and also suffer due to the bad karma. That is how karma works. > 2. Its so good & nice on your part that you have shared from your own source> code. I once again reiterate open-source would ensure better, compact & more> featured software. Its part of our culture to share the knowledge; & the> jyotish is also part of our own culture; it is NOT under Intellectual> Property Rights- so even if other vendors object- Jyotish software is not knowledge. It is a tool of convenience. One can possess and apply Jyotish knowledge without any software. Jyotish software just makes it convenient to apply Jyotish knowledge. It is a convenience or a luxury and not a necessity. When someone creates a tool of convenience for saving the time of others, I see nothing wrong in putting a price on it. There is a difference between selling a Jyotish secret or technique for $300 and selling a Jyotish software for $300. The former amounts to selling knowledge, while the latter does not. I personally feel more comfortable now, after making "Jagannatha Hora" completely free. This is what my heart says. However, I will be a fool if I say that this is the only way and that everybody should do the same. Again, please do not politicize my act of making JHora free and my decision to make it open source in the long run. And, please don't let appreciation for my act turn into dogmatism or disrespect for others.
