This was not an easy decision for me. I am aware of the negative impact it may have on some and took this step only after thinking about it for a long time. The benefit of facilitating a lot of genuine research by giving a free tool that is rich in calculations and options to Jyotish enthusiasts seemed to me to outweigh the drawbacks. I also believe that the value of this tool will be enhanced considerably after I open up the source code in a couple of years or so. It is my vision that an extremely powerful free tool will be available to Jyotish researchers in a decade or so. This is just the first step, but an essential one. I am more motivated by the long-term vision. I greatly respect the work being done by so many other software makers with excellent intentions and great contributions to the Jyotish community. I do not intend to harm anybody. I sincerely hope that there is a boom in Jyotish in coming decades and that everybody, including researchers, software makers and professional practitioners, benefit from it. By the way, I feel that the negative impact on others is being exaggerated. While my software, with its elaborate calculations and options, is ideal for researchers and students, it is not upto mark for professional practitioners who don't need all those calculations but need beautiful print-outs, ease of use, nice look and feel etc. I left JHora lacking so as to minimize the impact on others. I purposely ignored the advice of some well-wishers to give a professional look and feel to JHora and add some conveniences that professional practitioners may want. Most commercial software packages have a very clear edge over JHora in this area. JHora is mainly for researchers. Guest guest
Namasthe My humble salutations to Sri P.V.R.Rao. His view on other software vendors are absolute. No body is going to be hurt by offering his software for free. I have written an astrological software way back in 1994 on Ms-Dos platform. and I have given it free for many users. At present I am converting it for full windows version with many advance features. This is also mainly for research. I had written this package due to lack of service and interest of an existing software vendor who sells at exhorbitant rates and a well known name in India and abroad for astrological software. I needes it for my own research in astrology which I had been doing now for the past 20 years. I am also a software vendor for other type of software. Every one will have their customers and the vendors cater to divergent needs of their customers. Another point is more packages means vendors will strive to make their product excellent. customers are only going to benefit. There are hundreds of packages in the market each with its own advantages. Users get a choise. With Regards Suresh Babu vedic astrology, "Narasimha P.V.R.
