Howard Dean's Comeback

Namaste friends,

As you may remember, Howard Dean was the front-runner in democratic presidential

primaries until Dec 2003. Saddam's capture made his vehement anti-war position

look silly just as primaries started in January 2004. Then the in-famous

media-doctored "scream" took him down further. He fell as dramatically as he

rose. About a year back, he was written off by everybody and political pundits

did not give him much chance of a comeback.

But those of you who saw his chart may have noticed that he runs Saturn-Sun

antardasa during 2004-2005. In rasi chart, Saturn in 3rd and Sun in 6th are

well-placed and in mutual kendras. Malefics in 3rd and 6th promise success.

Saturn is a yogakaraka and a 5th lord in D-10. Sun is in 10th with the other 5th

lord Rahu. Some kind of power and position are likely in Saturn-Sun antardasa.

The bhoga of Sun from Saturn is also in the 5th house and shows some fame and

power.

No wonder, the doctor is back in limelight. Howard Dean was today elected as the

chairman of the Democratic party.

I expect that the passionate and pragmatic leader will convert the largely

bureacratic and ceremonial post into a very high profile post and revive the

fortunes of the democratic party. The next 3 antardasas Howard Dean runs in

Saturn dasa are very powerful, if you look at D-10 and judge them. Howard Dean

will remain in the public eye and increase his stature nationally. Though many

people are concerned that the "liberal" Dean will take the party further to the

left and into a political abyss, it is my expectation that Dean will navigate

the party capably and revive their fortunes. I expect that Dean will do the

democratic party what Berry Goldwater did to the Republican party in 1960's.

Howard Dean is not going to fade away from limelight anytime soon. His political

ascendancy has only begun.

Narasimha,

I respect your chart analysis. However, politically speaking, the

Democrats have not learned what the recent election just showed in

the USA. That is, most Americans are still on the conservative

side. Appointing Dean as the head of the Democrats would not help in

defeating the Republicans in the next election. In my opinion, Dean

is perceived as being too liberal for most voters in the US.

The Democrats need a candidate who can win the hearts of the voters

in the American heartland, including the South. The Democrats must

realize that they cannot rely on the voters from the "Blue" states,

i.e. the big metropolitan cities on the coastal states, to win the

election.

It would be more appropriate to have a candidate who is perceived to

be "middle of the road" on the major issues and who is appealing to

the voters in the South.

American politics is very complicated, as do most democratic

countries like India. Making a prediction at this early stage is

very difficult. A few notable jyotishis have failed to predict the

correct presidential outcome in the last election.

Regards,

John R.
