Guest guest
Dear Vinita, Thank you for your note, nice to see you have found my reply meaningful. You have mentioned about "going with the flow"; As you know, Saints, Enlightened People are known to live higher levels of consciousness, reality and living (in the spiritual sense). Their experience of living is hard to describe, even impossible actually, but they try to give approximate descriptions so that we may have an idea aboout that, so that we are motivated to move towards the same. Maharishi Parashara and Jaimini were two such Enlightened Sages. In our usual day to day living, our living is akin to a boat in stormy weathers, the current or the wind takes us this way or that way. When a person has reached higher levels of consciousness, his life is akin to a boat that is anchored in stormy weather, e.g. even though there is a storm the boat is firmly fixed and not drifting here and there. The storms and winds in our lives are brought to us by the "Grahas" as a result of our previous deeds. But, (something not widely known) the level of consciousness of a person is not really fixed, it is changing, like the waves reaching the shore in an ocean, we sometimes move forward and sometimes back. So from time to time we have glimpses of what is like to have a higher level of consciousness, or what it is like to live in a more evolved state of life. Everybody has this experience from time to time, some western scholars have labeled some of these experiences as "self-actualisation" and even have conducted experiments on it etc. Being in the self, in the moment, going with the flow, terms like this all describe the same. At such a stage despite of what could be going on outside in our lives, e.g. good or bad, the person remains fixed in himself in eternal peace and bliss. This is how the boat of life in human existence is fixed confronted with the ever-changing outer reality, brought to us through the Grahas. So life is lived in peace and bliss, even though the same person may be facing some adverse karma. This is the true aim and purpose of life. As noted above, everybody from time to time has some glimpses of this higher reality, and knows inside that such a stage is there and can be reached, and ideed is motivated to move towards there, not knowing actually what to do for that end. Mostly we instinctively think or beleive, achieving material things (that could be status, money, knowledge, love of dear ones, anything) will get us there, but this state is ellusive and is beyond that. The custodians of Vedic Wisdom has in fact brought out to light, the practical methods to reach these higher levels of life. The keyword here is to "transcend" the day to day reality of living and thinking. Meditation is one method to transcend thinking, where the mind disengages from its usual gross activity, reaches finer levels of thought and beyond that transcends and experiences the ultimate reality of life. The regular practice of which, will in time through purification of the mind and physiology, takes the person to higher levels of consciousness and spiritual living. One word of caution here is that, to evolve in this direction does not necessarily mean that we change our style of living, and live the life of a Yogi, a Sadhaka doing Austerities and Sadhana living the life of a recluse (which does not naturally appeal to a person living in the western style). There are different ways possible, one of which is that of the Karma Yogi, going through this process while doing his or her usual duties in society. In another post, I will mention about some further and very interesting research and findings about the roles of Grahas in our lives from this point of view. Also I will mention about the need for "applying the brakes to refine ourselves, e.g. fighting with our Grahas". P.S. We should not forget that, the purpose of the totality of Vedic Wisdom (e.g. Jyotish, Ayur-Ved, Sthapatya-Ved, Mantra Shastra etc.), is to give man the practical means to live a more happy, purposeful life full of achievements. I have been the happiest when I have allowed myself to flow freely. But "flowing" should also be with intense conciousness. Brakes and barriers have to be applied to conform to what is considered "right". Whenever you put on the brakes you get the feeling that you are "fighting" with your grahas. It could sap your energies. But that is the only way you can bring about "structural" changes in life and "refine" yourself. > > That is why meditation is so important as Mark also believes. But as you and Mark may like to put it, the struggle will automatically stop when we "know" ourselves fully along with our grahas, isn't it? > > Thanks once again for your views. > > Best wishes, > > Vinita > > > > > ALL-NEW Messenger - all new features - even more fun!
