Reema – first understand the signs as described in BPHS (Chapter 4, I believe). Thereafter, understand the basis cf the Navamsa, and map the signs accordingly to the Navamsa Lagna. Maharishi Jaimini (Upadesa Sutras) has written extensively on the Navamsa. Examine Chapter I Quarter II. He describes all the Navamsas. Thereafter, he describes various combinations. For example (and returning to Kannan's original question): He also delineates whether an indicated chart is that of a Mantrik, has knowledgege of Yantra, or Tantra. Jaimini's Upadeça Sutra çloka: 2-1-83 "Trikoëe päpa dvaye mäntrika http://www..org/learn/ck.htm#_Toc25590632 I have written on inherent abilities / skill sets easier for one to pick up based on the Trines to the Navamsa. However, I did not bookmark it, and there has been more discussion in the archives as well. Hope that some of this helps. I understand that Maharishi Jaimini wrote a lot about positions of various planets, etc. from Karakamsa/AL. However, what I was looking for is to know characteristics of people (appearance, nature, etc.) based on navamsa lagna. Adhyaya I, Pada II of JUS that you mentioned does not talk about that. Also, Ch. 4 of BPHS describes characteristics of signs, not of navamsa ascendants. Therefore, I am not sure if one can take these sign descriptions and apply them to native with the given sign as his/her navamsa lagna. Anyway, if you/anyone can pinpoint to literature that describes all the navamsa lagnas and their corresponding characteristics, it would be most helpful for birthtime rectification.
