Guest guest
Dear Buku, Namaste, If you can find; the book (a small book printed I beleive in India); Shri Narasimha-Sahasra-Nama, Thousand Names of Lord Narasimha Taken from the Narasimha Purana, Translated by Kusakratha Dasa, a disciple of Shrila Prabhupada I beleive (In the actual book the title and translator are spelled a little bit differently like Sri Nrsimha with dots etc. used for Sanskrit phonetics), I would highly recommend that you chant this, it flows very easily, very easy to read (transliterated in latin alphabet, no Devanagari script) and beautiful translation. I beleive it will work wonders for Lord Narasimha and Mangal Graha, it is also very powerful, so one should be careful, not to overdo it. Guest guest
Dear Sabriji Thank you for the information provided by you. If I may take the liberty of asking you a query, I would like you to elaborate more on what you mentioned in the last line of the email "it is also very powerful, so one should be careful, not to overdo it". What exactly do you mean by overdoing? Is there a restriction on reciting the stuti, generally the stuti's can be recited 3 times a day, would this mean mean overdoing? Also interested to know what could be ill-effects, if any, of overdoing a mantra. Many thanks, Best wishes Shubhangi On Wed, 29 Dec 2004 Sabri wrote : > > >Dear Buku, Namaste, > >If you can find; the book (a small book printed I beleive in India); >Shri Narasimha-Sahasra-Nama, Thousand Names of Lord Narasimha Taken > from the Narasimha Purana, Translated by Kusakratha Dasa, a disciple >of Shrila Prabhupada I beleive (In the actual book the title and >translator are spelled a little bit differently like Sri Nrsimha >with dots etc. used for Sanskrit phonetics), I would highly >recommend that you chant this, it flows very easily, very easy to >read (transliterated in latin alphabet, no Devanagari script) and >beautiful translation. Guest guest
Dear Shubhangi, Namaste, Recitation of a Mantra or any religious text, purifies the physiology and the nervous system in a certain way, that is, these practices release stresses and purify the physiology. It is noted in the Bhagavat-Gita that this process should take its time. It is much like meditation, althought the effect is more softer. Along with this purification process some of our karmas are resolved, they go hand in hand, hence the need and advises for mantra and sacred hymn recitation. The explanation to this is very simple, since the hymn in question is of the divine, having utmost purity, dealing with That, e.g. putting attention on That, brings the same quality to the phsyiology. Regarding about overdoing it, there is a certain amount of purification that the physiology can handle daily. This amount (of recitation) should eighter be told by a Guru, or you can find it by experimenting, like you start with 5-10 minutes of chanting daily, and increase and see the effects. When you start to do more than you can handle, there will be things like feeling, agitated, nervous, or feeling down etc. e.g. "emotional ups and downs". These indications that normally would not be there, will show you that you have overdone the recitation. It all depends on the individual physiology, the level of ones evolution on the spiritual path, the nature and the purity of the mantra or hymn that is being recited, as well to several other factors. Many people are afraid of Mantras, I do not prefer to comment on that, but simple hymns and texts like 108 or 1000 Names can be recited without any concern. You will have to adjust the daily time you do that, that's all. There is no ill-effects involved apart from what I have described above. But if you are not careful about this aspect it may be "unconfortable", then you naturally adjust your daily chanting. No need to be afraid, of something bad will happen, that's all that is to it. There are many views on the recitation of Mantras, e.g. how it should be done, the need about initiation by a competent Guru, etc. I respect all these views. What I am mentioning here is more about sacred hymns, which are less powerful (e.g. they do not easily bring up undue purification, unless you chant for hours let's say), hence can be recited without much concern.
