Guest guest
How Hindus adopted Astrology as practical Astronomy? In ancient and modern India, Astrology was treated as practical Astronomy right from the Vedic period. The Vedic Seers Vishashtaji, Bhriguji, Parasharji, Sunakaji Maharaj among others measured the Universe and the planets with their own mathematics. They predicted the Solar and Lunar eclipses with perfection, second to second when there was no telescope or any other such aid to measure the planets and the constellations. The science of Astronomy-cum-Astrology became a confused subject for a short period. Some rulers ignored the predictive science assuming that the rulers might have lost their thrones due to the ill advice of Soothsayers and Astrologers, and hence this prophetic science went low. However, some Astronomers made some attempts to revive this science. They strengthened and justified astronomical mathematics and re-energized the science of Astronomy-cum-Astrology, which they considered Astrology as a part of 'Twin Astronomy' It is important to mention about Chandragupta Vikramaditya - 380-414 A.D. He had great faith in astronomical calculations. He took every step after consulting his Astronomers-Astrologers. His best Astronomer-Astrologer was Aryabhatta, who was a great Astronomer and Mathematician of his time. Chandragupta had high regards for the ancient seers, who had initiated the knowledge of Astronomy and mathematics of measuring different aspects of the Universe and particularly the calculation of Lunar and Solar eclipses in addition to the details of effects of eclipses and planets on human beings. In fact, it was Aryabhatta, who enhanced the status of the Astronomical mathematics and brought this combined knowledge on the peak. He described the phenomenon of the Solar and Lunar eclipses through mathematics. He also rejuvenated the Astronomical Mathematics based on the ancient seers of India. He revitalized the predictive part of Astrology based on the principle of Astronomy and found convincing. He covered the projecting areas of auspicious and inauspicious influence of planets in details how they affected the events of human life and country's future according to different positions and orbits of the planets at the time of their birth, human being or state. Aryabhatta also predicted the influence of different planets on the Earth and effect on human beings in relation to their major events of life based on 27 important constellations (nakshatras) like the great seers of the Vedic era. This period was called the Golden Period of Ancient India. The faith of people in Astrology is as strong as the scientists have in Astronomy. Astrology is an intimate part of Astronomy, because its calculations are based on the movement of planets. People place great faith in the predictive sciences all over the world, in general, and India, in particular. Almost all politicians, head of States, Business men, Professionals, in short, people of every walk of life would like to read his or her luck everyday, or week in the newspapers and magazines. Astrology lives in the hearts of the people being the part of Astronomy and their faith is not blind but is based on a solid authenticity, which they generally experience themselves.
