Dear Tarkatirtha,

Parallax use or not is based on the model you use. There is nothing wrong in

using it, but don't call it JYOTISH. Call it something else like say Parallax

astrology. Not only do we consider the center of the earth for GEO-CENTRIC

positions of planets but also Use the CENTER of the planets themselves for

their longtudes. Maybe there can be yet another theory that they should use one

limb of the planet instead of the center of the planet, like the Moon then even

the Parallax method will fail and you will have a right parallax and a left

parallax..go ahead and keep soeculating, but don't call it Jyotish.

DearGuruji,Traditionally astrologers are using geocentric co-ordinates

whichassumes that everyone was born at the centre of the earth.

Modernastrologers use co-ordinate system that considers even height of aplace

from the sea level called as topocentric co-ordinates. This is amodern

technique where planet positions are calculated as seen fromthe actual surface

location of the Earth. The difference between thegeocentric and topocentric

systems is that of parallax (the apparentdifference in an object's position as

viewed from different points.)The more distant the object, the less the

parallax. For the Moon, theparallax can reach about one degree in both

longitude and declination.For the rest of the planets, it is less than half a

minute of arc.This means that we have been calculating WRONG moon positions

yearsafter years. If Parashara and Varahamihira come to know abt thismistake

will they continue to do it or correct it immediately.Tarkatirth Message
