Guest guest
Namaste friends, Some recent media coverage of Swami Jayendra Saraswathi portrays him as someone who corrupted the pure religious tradition with the political savvy and religio-political activism. Some comparisons were made with Swami Chandrashekhara Saraswathi, the previous pontiff. Based on my astrological analysis, I am fully convinced that both men are great saints in their own right and great sannyasis. But they do have some differences. When I see either chart, I feel humbled and feel great respect from inside. However, it is instructive to see the differences from the astrological angle, without belittling either. For a simple comparison of how they conducted themselves in society and what they contributed to the greater society, please compare their dasamsas. Swami Chandrasekhara Saraswati (rectified) 20th May 1894, 13:09:12 (IST), 79 E 32' 00", 11 N 57' 00") Swami Jayendra Saraswati (un-rectified) 18th July 1935, 19:00:00 (IST), 79 E 26' 00", 10 N 42' 00" Swami Chandrasekhara Saraswati has a nice raja yoga in dasamsa between 7th lord Sun and 5th lord Mercury (dispositor of dharma-karmadhipati yoga!). This yoga is stronger than the DKY in his dasamsa. You may note that Sun and Mercury both occupy a dasamsa of Isana! On the other hand, Swami Jayendra Saraswati has a brilliant raja yoga in the 5th house of dasamsa, between 9th lord Moon, 10th lord Sun and lagna lord Ketu. Out of these three planets, two (Sun and Ketu) are in a dasamsa of Ananta. While two key planets in Pisces in dasamsa in Isanaamsa define the activities of one Swamiji, two key planets in Pisces in dasamsa in an Anantaamsa define the activities of the other Swamiji. It is worthwhile to note the difference between Isana and Ananta. Isana shows religiousness. He makes one adhere to customs. He rules over the north-eastern direction. Ananta, on the other hand, rules over the upward direction and he rules over spiritual rise by breaking out of the shackles. Religiousness and spirituality are not necessarily the same, though they are linked. Normally, you will see Isana playing an important role in the dasamsas of priests and Ananta playing an important role in the dasamsas of spiritualists. For example, Ramana Maharshi has yogakaraka Venus in Ananta's amsa aspecting lagna and his dispositor Moon occupies Pisces (!) in Ananta's dasamsa. Swami Chandrasekhara Saraswati was a great religious person. So is Swami Jayendra Saraswati, but orthodoxy is less important to him than understanding the purpose and serving it. Isana makes one orthodox, but not Ananta. Ananta is all about understanding the reality and breaking out of the artificial shackles. Swami Jayendra Saraswati was at times unorthodox and he broke traditions that he knew were meaningless. That positive progressiveness comes from planets in Ananta's dasamsa. He did not hesitate to travel to foreign countries (which was banned by orthodoxy) and did not hesitate to take up social activities to bring deprived groups such as dalits into the fold of Hinduism. His actions may make some wonder if he was truly a sannyasi or a power-mongerer. But Saturn with Moon in Dhanishtha 4th quarter fully convinces me that was a true sannyasi. His unorthodox actions like leaving the math in 1987, taking part in political processes, travelling abroad, communicating to dalits, taking up social activities like hospital construction etc may give a wrong impression of being a power-mongerer. But the truth is that he is a sannyasi, who does not have any desires for himself, but feels some duties towards Hinduism. He is a progressive Swamiji who can think and see the truth and break the tradition if appropriate. With this approach, he made enemies and he is suffering. But he will come out of it. Now, while we are talking about dasamsa deities, look at Jayalalita's dasamsa deities. The lady has 3 planets in Indra's dasamsa, including two planets that have a kartari on lagna! No wonder power is so important to her. Sun in the 5th house in dasamsa is in Nirriti's amsa. She can do *anything* for power. May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha
