In order to calculate the Arudha Padas, one has to use the planetary positions as a reference point. All the planets map into the Chara Karaka scheme (7 or 8 depending on non-mundane or mundane). Example atmakarak (1) in arudha, amaty-karak in pada of 2nd house ...
