|| Jaya Jagannath ||Dear Jai,

There has been difference in opinion on this subject and hence I am telling

whatever I got from my guru Pt. Sanjay Rath.

The Day duration/ night duration is divided into eight parts each one is lorded

by a planet starting from the weekday lord governing the first part. The

subsequent parts are governed by the planets starting from the weekday lord in

weekday order. However since there are 7 planets (excludig nodes) and 8 parts

of the day, the 8th part is left unlorded. Thus the order of the lords

beginning from Sun (lets say we are looking at Sunday) is Sun, Moon, Mars,

Merc, Jup, Ven, Saturn, No lord. The beginning of the unlorded part is called

gulikodaya kala or the rising time of gulika. Hence the lagna rising at that

time is known as Gulika. Thus persons born at different time on a day have the

same gulika longitude... however those who are born during the time of rising

of gulika, the lagna longitude will almost conjoin the gulika longitude and

such persons suffer in life due to affliction of the lagna.

Mandi rises approximately 45min before the rise of Gulika since, the rising time

is in the middle of Saturn's portion.

One must remember that the ruler of the 8 parts in the evening half starts from

the planet who comes 5th from the weekday lord. So if it is Sunday, the first

part after sunset would be governed by Jupiter and then the subsequent parts

would follow the weekday order.

Best Wishes

Sarajit
