Namaste nameless friend, If one thinks that Sanjay ji is a typical egoistic guru

who surrounds himself with sycophants and expects people to always agree with

him, one is badly mistakened.

Sanjay ji is the most learned Jyotish scholar and the greatest authority in

Jyotish today and yet he always said (to me atleast) that his knowledge need

not be perfect (even though it is far more perfect than anybody else's). He

encouraged me (and others I am sure) to dissect his teachings, to really

understand them and disagree when needed. He is a totally open-minded and

ego-less guru.

As members from the old times may recall, he gave me (and others) an opportunity

to argue with him here many times before. In fact, there were even occasions

when he changed his views after an argument. An example is the Moola dasa

starting point argument. Because Varahamihira and Kalyana Verma were so

unambiguous on it, I publicly disagreed with Sanjay ji and had a heated

argument on whether Sun can be the starting point for Moola dasa apart from

lagna and Moon. Sanjay ji accepted my view publicly after about a year. It is a

proof of his greatness, humility and open-mindedness.

Of course, some obedient and loyal students of Sanjay ji may take his word as

the LAST WORD and prefer to ignore other ancient authorities. It is a valid

stand. Whenever you have a savant of the stature of Sanjay ji, invariably such

following develops. But you have to bear in mind that Sanjay ji himself is

quite open. The most important thing is that Sanjay ji encourages students like

me who question some of his teachings publicly and does not treat us with

suspicion or scorn like some other egoistic gurus may be inclined to do. Though

I have a mind of my own and questioned Sanjay ji many times, he was always so

kind and affectionate to me and gave me so much! In fact, he explicitly told me

to maintain the same spirit of questioning and finding the Truth.

Sorry for being long, but I really wanted to clarify this, as some new people

may be tempted to think that Sanjay ji does not tolerate different views.

If I have misrepresented Sanjay ji in any way, I beg your pardon. May Jupiter's

light shine on us,Narasimha

PS: Another point is that it is not always easy to gauge what exactly Sanjay ji

thinks or believes in. He dislikes spoon-feeding. There were occasions when he

taught me incorrectly and corrected himself with lit up eyes when I confronted

him with the correct logic after a few months. What he teaches you depends on

what he thinks you are ready for. Thus, what he teaches you is a reflection of

what he thinks about your level more than what he knows or thinks. His actions

and motivations are very tough to understand, as he operates on a totally

different intellectual plane than most of us. > Lerned Gurus,> > And when Sri
