I went to a jyotisha in Sri Lanka (or sastrya, as it is said in

Singhala), and he wrote up a chart. When he read it, he said I had

an incredibly powerful horoscope. Any comments on whether he was

correct or not?

Dear Sunspot:

It's very fun to look at people who are just beginning to understand their Jyotish charts.

The most important, 'first' thing to learn or experience, is ....'Does my chart fit me?'

Most charts have positives and negatives.....

Most people do.

The Earth is a school, where we've come to grow, to improve, to even change certain things about us.

This is the real purpose of our lives.

In your chart, you've got a very good Jupiter in it's own Sign in the 11th house.

That should allow you to have more easy fulfillment of desire, then not.

A really good way of studying and learning your chart, is to first make a list

of all the qualities, tendencies, and characteristics that you know about

yourself...

Then, as you go through the different Jyotish, 'configurations', then, 'find'

the correspondence between those configuartions and the qualities & tendencies,

'list' that you made.

When you find the Jyotish reason, 'why' you are every part of you, then you'll

have learned your Chart.

Yes, Jyotish can be very overwhelming, sometimes, but most people don't keep it simple.

Study 3 things first.

Study, what the Planets 'mean'.

The Planets represent different aspect of ourselves.

Sun represents our 'I', our self-worth, and self-confidence, 'ego' strength.

Moon represents our emotional, 'feeling' nature.

Mercury represents our intellects.

Like that every Planet in a particular 'sign' and 'house' means something.

As you study what it's supposed to mean, with the Sun in the 9th House, and the

Sun, in Capricorn, look inside and 'feel' if those qualities, don't fit you.

So, Planets, Houses & Signs....

If you focus on those, and at first, don't try to learn everything, dasas,

transits, divisional charts, for example....

then, as you grow in self-awareness....'ahhhhh, this fits me'....quality....

then, later you can expand....

ps.... one final thing. Our charts are just our 'beginnings'. And you can make

whatever you want about your life. Learn to 'feel' the correlation between your

'self' and your chart, and that will give you confidence, to live the life that

you were born for!

Also, study, especially, the wisdom of the 'malefics' in our charts. The

Malefics, distinction, represent those areas, within us, that we're meant to

change!

The Malefics, are like, our blinders, 'spots', and therefore they're very important to 'psyche' out.

If we don't we'll continue making mistakes, like going to fast, having

accidents, or mis-timings, etc.

I went to a jyotisha in Sri Lanka (or sastrya, as it is said in

Singhala), and he wrote up a chart. When he read it, he said I had

an incredibly powerful horoscope. Any comments on whether he was

correct or not? I purchased "Under a Vedic Sky" by William Levacy,

but learning to read my horoscope is something, I realize, that

takes YEARS of practice and experience.

I was born on January 14th, 1976 at 2:22pm in New York.

A question I had is this: some people tell me that it is important,

for marriage compatibility purposes in Sri Lanka, to calculate my

horoscope by shifting it to Sri Lankan time. That is, to make my

birthtime several hours ahead to get the Sri Lankan time of my

birth. Others say this is wrong, and to use my birthtime as it is,

where I was born, that is, New York. Who is correct?
