Guest guest
Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya ============================= Respected Gurujis, I have a a few questions on Calculations and a fundamental question on the dasa itself. Calculation ------------ For a Lagna in an even sign without Ketu/Saturn in Lagna, the order of dasa would be the dasa of planets in Kendras followed by dasa of planets in Panapara followed by dasa of planets in Apoklima. With the above order established, one is next faced with the task of establishing the strength of signs of a specific set (Kendra/PP/Apkl). I am analyzing a chart that has Venus in Simha Lagna, Rahu in scorpio (4), Jupiter(AK) in Pisces(8), Mars in Aries(9), and Ketu in Taurus (10), Sun, Sat(AyK)(Combust), Merc in Gemini (11) and Moon in Cancer (12). I have computed the order of dasas as Rahu -> Ketu ->Venus -> Merc - > Sun -> Saturn -> Jupiter -> Mars -> Moon. I would request Gurujis to opine on my rationale behind the computation. 1. Tie between Rahu and Ketu (Both in Even Signs) as their dispositors are in odd signs. Rahu pips Ketu because Mars aspects Scorpio and Mars is indeed RYK for this chart. 2. Venus comes third as both Venus and its Dispositor are in same ( odd) signs. 3. 11'th house scores over the 8'th because of the prescence of 3 planets in the former. 4. Mercury comes first because of Swakshetra in Gemini. 5. Sun scores over Saturn because of latter's combustion. The distance of Mars from its MT sign is 0. Does the -1 rule apply here? Moola Dasa period for Moon is turning out to be 0. General Questions ----------------- 1. Will the effects of the planets prevail over the Vimosattiri Dasa/Antardasa planets? Panditji's example on Bhagwan Shri RamaChandra did seem to suggest the same; But I can talked out of this ;-) 2. Should interpretations be made in conjunction with D-60 or is it D-1? Best Regards, Kumar Yogesh
Guest guest
Dear Yogesh and list, I just thought you might find these two posts from the excellent Narashimha useful. Best wishes Kasim 1) The birthdata I have for Sri Aurobindo is: August 15, 1872 Time: 5:19:00 Time Zone: 5:53:00 (East of GMT) Longitude: 88 E 20' 00" Latitude: 22 N 30' 00" D-1 is: lagna, Mars & Jupiter in Cn; Sun, Mercury & Venus in Le; Ketu in Sc; Saturn & Moon in Sg; Rahu in Ta. D-60 is: lagna & Saturn in Li; Moon in Sc; Venus in Cp; Jupiter & Rahu in Aq; Mars in Ta; Mercury in Cn; Sun & Ketu in Le. Moola Dasa: Maha Dasas: Sun: 1872-08-15 (05:19:00) - 1878-06-11 (01:43:13) Mer: 1878-06-11 (01:43:13) - 1893-12-19 (12:19:50) Ven: 1893-12-19 (12:19:50) - 1911-07-06 (18:41:23) Ket: 1911-07-06 (18:41:23) - 1918-04-21 (14:21:56) Rah: 1918-04-21 (14:21:56) - 1927-01-13 (15:05:11) Sat: 1927-01-13 (15:05:11) - 1943-08-12 (03:37:02) Moo: 1943-08-12 (03:37:02) - 1948-06-17 (05:52:42) Jup: 1948-06-17 (05:52:42) - 1958-03-02 (00:37:18) Note 1: For computation details, see my or Sanjay's old posts in archives. Note 2: Though Sanjay takes only lagna and Moon for starting dasas, I take Sun too, as advised by Varahamihira, Prithuyasas and Kalyana Verma. In this case, however, I *suspect* Sanjay will also not mind using Sun. Sun dasa was over when he was too young. Mercury dasa came in 1878 and lasted till 1893. Mercury is the 9th and 12th lord in 10th in D-60. If the 9th and 12th lord is in 10th, it can give activities related to religion. It can also give a career in a foreign land. As a functional benefic in 10th, Mercury may have given given a good career in past life. However, Mercury is in Karaala-Danshtramsa (a demonic being with dreadful teeth). As the 9th lord in Karala-Danshtramsa, Mercury may have made him live abroad. In Mercury's Moola dasa, it continued. From 1879 to 1893, Aurobindo lived in England away from family. As per his father's wishes, he was brought up in European culture totally unaware of Indian culture and Indian way of life. Though he mastered 7 foreign languages, he could not even speak his mother tongue Bengali well (let alone Sanskrit!). Mercury, who stood for some good karma in past life (9th lord in 10th in D-60), made him shine in education and languages, but he gave a lot of foreign influence. In rasi chart also, Mercury is 12th lord and shows being away from motherland. In 1893, he came back to India after finishing ICS and held several government posts. He learnt several Indian languages including Sanskrit, got exposed to Hindu philosophy and got into yoga. He also got into politics and freedom fight. He was even imprisoned. During all this time, Moola dasa of Venus was running. In D-60, Venus is lagna and 8th lord in Indvamsa (meaning Moon - good). In past life, he stood for overall development (lagna), finding roots (lagna), yogic sadhana (8th), status in society (Venus in AL) and enmities (Venus in A6). As a continuation of activities in past life, Venus gave similar activities in this life too! Next dasa of Ketu changed his life. He renounced his career, politics and everything and moved to Pondicherry in south India. He went seriously into yoga and spiritual matters. He wrote a lot of excellent articles in "Arya" magazine and some sishyas gathered around him. Why was there such a huge change in his life? It's because of Ketu's Moola dasa. Ketu is in the 5th house in own house in rasi. Being in A9, he can give some activities of organized religion (A9). Being in 5th in Scorpio, he can direct the intelligence (5th) to probe the hidden and occult (Ketu & Sc). Ketu is in the house of gains in D-60 with atma karaka Sun. Sun is clearly the most outstanding planet in his case. He occupies moolatrikona or exaltation sign in 15 out of 16 divisional charts and that places him in the exceptionally strong Golokamsa. It is rarely that we see people with a planet in Golokamsa. With atmakaraka in Golokamsa, he had a very advanced soul. Our souls have to go through thousands of lives and millions of experiences to reach that level of union with the Supreme. Being with such Sun in D-60, Ketu (significator of spirituality) must've given a lot of spiritual advancement in past life. Moreover, he is in Kali-naasaamsa (destruction of Kali - ignorance and malice). Ketu in kali-naasaamsa associated with a strong Sun must've given a lot of excellent spiritual activities in past life. It continued in this life and the onset of Ketu's Moola dasa took this multi-faceted and myriad-minded genius away from all the political activcities and into yogic sadhana and spirituality. Being in the 5th house in own house in rasi, Ketu can also give some power and authority (related to religion of course). Next dasa was of Rahu. Rahu is with Jupiter in 5th in D-60. Normally, this is considered as Guru-chandala yoga (i.e. deceiving one's guru). If Rakshasa (demon - Rahu) is with Jupiter (Guru), does it only need to the deceit of guru? Can't the demon be reformed? In this D-60, Rahu is in own sign (Aq) and gives asraya (residence) to Jupiter (Guru). Rahu, like Ketu, is in Kali-naasamsa. If Rahu, the giver of Kali, himself is set to destroy Kali, who will give ignorance? So Rahu, in this D-60, does NOT denote deceiving a guru, but he may denote offering residence to a very advanced and sweet-mannered guru (Jupiter in Amritamsa - amrita means nectar) in a foreign land (Aq & Rahu) and working to destroy ignorance in this world (kali-naasa). So Rahu dasa continued the same activities. In fact, one reaps the fruits of what one sows and Aurobindo was blessed in Rahu dasa with a brilliant sishya who helped him in his ashram activities. A French lady of Egyptian descent, came to him in Rahu's Moola dasa, and took over the ashram responsibilities. She is known as "the Mother". In 1927, Saturn's Moola dasa started. With this, he retired into seclusion and left all the ashram responsibilities to "The Mother". He pursued yogic sadhana in complete isolation and became arguably the most advanced yogi of this age. He also wrote commentaries on Vedas and Upanishats. In rasi chart, Saturn is with Moon and denotes renunciation. In D-60, he is exalted in Libra lagna, giving Sasa yoga. He is in the favorable Seetalamsa (meaning cool). Saturn in the past life may have given wandering and renunciation. That spirit of positive Saturn continued in this life (thanks also to Saturn-Moon combination in rasi) and he retired from ashram activities. Two concluding remarks: (1) If you calculate Moola dasa correctly, often Moola dasa transitions coincide with phase changes in life! (2) You may note that I've been giving prominence to amritamsa, kali-naasamsa etc amsas occupied by planets in D-60. They are vital in deciding the results. Don't look only at the rasis and houses occupied by a planet in D-60, but also look at the amsa occupied. We have such classification not only in D-60, but in all vargas!! For example, Dr. B.V. Raman has Sun, Moon and Mars together in 11th in D-24 (chart of learning) giving Trilochana yoga (Trilochana = Shiva. This yoga makes one a fearless victor). In his case, he was a fearless campaigner of astrology. Planets in 11th have an argala on 8th (occult) and 11th is the 4th (learning) from 8th. So Sanjay taught sometime ago that planets in 11th give occult learning and aspecially astrology. However, not everyone with the same D-24 would be a fearless campaigner of a traditional subject. In Dr. Raman's case, all the three planets giving Trilochana yoga in 11th in D-24 are in Mitramsa. Mitra is the Rigvedic deity who stood for patience, tradition and pro-activity. Having Jupiter in 3rd in Parasu-Ramamsa also led to pro-active writing and spirited campaigning for astrology's cause. In all the divisional charts, we have to look at the amsa occupied (i.e. ruler) along with the rasi and house occupied. Then only we can have an accurate picture. However, this needs an understanding of a lot of Hindu philosophy. So I skipped it in my book entirely. Gauranga prabhu wrote a few thoughtful articles on this issue in Jyotish News last year. May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha 2) Namaste, As a break from the many philosophical discussions we've had of late, I want to make a technical post. Rasi chart what physically manifests in this life and D-60 shows what physically manifested in the past life. Moola dasa shows how the actions (karma) of past life sow seeds for events in this life! Let us take Jayalalita Jayaram, chief minister of India's Tamil Nadu state. February 24, 1948 Time: 14:36:30 Time Zone: 5:30:00 (East of GMT) Longitude: 80 E 18' 00" Latitude: 13 N 05' 00" Her D-60 is as follows: Lagna & Mars in Sg; Sun in Cp; Jupiter in Ar; Rahu in Ta; Mercury in Cn; Saturn in Le; Moon in Vi; Venus in Li and Ketu in Sc. Mars in a fiery lagna in Yakshamsa shows an aggressive and charismatic leader (Yakshas are charismatic demigods). Jupiter in 5th in Yakshamsa shows a powerful and charismatic person. Ketu in own house in 12th in Praveenamsa (skillful) shows a highly spiritual and meticulous person. However, Saturn in 9th in an inimical sign (Leo) in Maayaamsa (illusion) can give illusions and adharma. So the native, though spiritual, may have fallen in the illusion and committed acts of adharma. This is a snapshot of what may have been the native's past life. Now, let us use Moola dasa to see how the past karma influences this life. Moola Dasa: Maha Dasas: Sun: 1948-02-24 (14:36:30) - 1953-12-20 (08:10:38) Mer: 1953-12-20 (08:10:38) - 1963-09-03 (16:16:19) Moo: 1963-09-03 (16:16:19) - 1964-08-23 (01:03:12) Mar: 1964-08-23 (01:03:12) - 1965-08-12 (03:14:54) Ven: 1965-08-12 (03:14:54) - 1977-05-03 (10:20:10) Jup: 1977-05-03 (10:20:10) - 1992-11-10 (05:07:46) Rah: 1992-11-10 (05:07:46) - 2000-08-15 (00:13:43) Ket: 2000-08-15 (00:13:43) - 2006-06-11 (14:21:29) Sat: 2006-06-11 (14:21:29) - 2018-03-01 (21:40:43) Venus is in Amritamsa (amrita = nectar) in moolatrikona in the 11th house of gains in D-60 and has argala on Moon in 10th. He gives excellent skills in refined entertainment. In this life also, being exalted in 10th house, he is a yogakaraka and yogada. In his dasa during 1965-1977, acting and other acts of entertainment must've come easily to her. I don't know the exact period, but she was indeed a popular actress in 60s/70s. Jupiter in 5th in D-60 shows power and authority in past life. In this life, he owns 10th and occupies the 7th house of relations. This shows power and association with powerful people. She entered politics. Venus is exalted in 10th and he owns GL and HL and aspects lagna. He gives raja yogas, malavya yoga and also becomes a maha yogada (association with lagna, GL and HL). So his antardasa, which was the last in Jupiter dasa, made her the chief minister of Tamil Nadu state. Later, Rahu's dasa came. Rahu in 6th in D-60 shows vengeance (sp?) and manipulations to fight powerful enemies. Rahu in 6th also shows material benefits possibly due to ruthlessness. All the material benefits of Rahu in 6th in past life took their karmic toll in this life. She made a lot of enemies and her enemies had her in a tight spot in Rahu dasa (1992-2000). She lost power in this dasa, a lot of cases were filed against her for abuse of power, and, she was even convicted in one case. In August 2000, Ketu dasa started. It will last till June 2006 (time of next elections if her government lasts 5 years!). In rasi chart (of this life), Ketu is in GL and HL and shows power and wealth. In D-60 of past life, as pointed out, he shows meticulous devotion and strong spirituality in own 12th house. The fruits of this good karma can be enjoyed in this life in Ketu's Moola dasa. Being in GL in rasi chart, Ketu gave controversial (Ketu-like!) power in his dasa. Saturn antardasa in Ketu dasa will run for a few more months. Saturn in 9th in an inimical sign in Maayaamsa in D-60 shows falling in illusion and breaking dharma (duty/righteousness) in past life. As a result, suffering can come in this life. She has to be cautious in Saturn antardasa. Jupiter is the significator of dharma and he alone can save one from the results of the acts of adharma committed in previous lives. Jupiter's aspect on Saturn in D-60 shows that remedial measures can work. She donated a baby elephant at a famous Hindu temple a few days back and this is an excellent remedial measure to escape the results of Saturn's antardasa as per Moola dasa. There was a strong talk from the central government about dismissing her government (over the arrest and manhandling of former chief minister and two central ministers), but the remedial measure may just work. However, Saturn's 12-year dasa will come in 2006 June. Unless very strong remedial measures are undertaken, the native may suffer much for the acts of adharma committed in past life. Concluding remark: Each dasa adds its own perspective on the events in one's life. Moola dasa is important in seeing the links of this life's events with the karma (actions) of past lives. I hope I inspire some of you to learn more about it. In tradition, this dasa is kept secret because of the potential of misuse. Don't misuse this dasa to scare clients or you will repent. As a general rule, don't use D-60 unless you are extremely confident of the birthtime. May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha PS: This dasa was NOT covered in my book.
