Dear Learned Members,

Can anyone be kind enough to guide me as to how to keep Satyanarayana Vrath. I

do not know much about it except what I found on the net and no site gives

details on how to keep the Vrath. Pls find some queries below, a detailed

answer would be most appreciated.

Obliged

Lord Satyanarayana is another form of Lord Vishnu who is commonly worshipped by

Hindus in their homes along with family and friends.

The worship is performed usually on a full moon (purnima) day of the month.

People worship by reciting the gracious story of the Lord which was once told

by Lord Vishnu himself to the sage Narada for the benefit of humankind.

The Lords grace is described in a Hindu book called Skanda Purana. He has four

hands like Lord Vishnu, however, his fourth hand does not hold a lotus rather

it is extended upward to bless people

Queries

1. I presume this Vrath is to be kept on Full Moon Day of every month. Any

particular month to start this or one can start from any coming Full Moon day

2. What are the rituals that one should perform

3. Can one hear a tape of the Satyanarayana Katha

4. I presume since the word Vrath is mentioned then one should abstain from food

and water for the whole day sunrise to sunset. Kindly clarify

5. What are the astrological combinations for which a native is compulsorily

adviced to keep this Vrath and for what benefit.

6. Any restrictions of caste, creed for Satyanarayana Vrath (I ask this since I

presume only Brahmins are supposed to recite Gayatri Mantra , I have heard this

and I can be wrong)

Shall be obliged

Best wishes to all
