Guest guest
Just sharing my recent writing in another group I belong. V Some Questions for Hindus Regarding Nepal Namaste Dear hinduism_in_nepal group Members, First I want to apologise for not keeping up with the communications in the group. I also want to say that I am not Nepali nor Indian but am American who was raised as a Hindu and lived in an Indian Gurukula as a child. I therefore do not have 1st hand experiance of what is happening in Nepal. I do research and gather info and put together reports based on the info I have. I therefore recognize your 1st hand knowledge and experiance in Nepal as paramaount information. Regarding the Nepal Monarchy. I know that Nepal is a land of real people with real concerns. The aspirations of the Nepalis are of great importance. Yet when it comes to the only Hindu government in the world, we are no longer refering to just any govt. we are speaking of a unique institution that is the only remaining example of indigenous Hindu government on the planet. So rather than just another form of govt that can be changed by the whims of the people, Nepal's form of government is a legacy for the whole human race. So my question is: As a Hindu, does not Nepal's Hindu govt belong to all Hindus? Should not this rare example of ancient Hindu civilization be not just preserved but enhanced according to the needs of the times and citizenry? If we say that we can be Hindus yet not support a Hindu form of Government is that not the same as saying I am Hindu but I dont agree that Hindusim is capable of governing? Hinduism is the world's best future hope for the very reason that it is all encompasing. Its not just about religion and figuring out how to die right. Every aspect of existance has an application in Hinduism. While the West has fooled everyone into being knee-jerk devotees of 'Democracy' we ignore the fact that 'Democracy' is directly responsible for the inability of governments to govern. In no other vital field of human endeavour are those responsible for progress forced to spend most of their time jockweying to keep their position. Imagine if a Bus driver had to take a vote from all his passengers everytime he needed to turn left or right. Or a Parent every time they made a decision, or a Teacher every time he taught a class, or a surgeon, a CEO, a Fire Brigade. The so-called Fathers of Democracy, the Greeks, recognized Democracy as the worst and most deviant form of Government. Aristotle put it this way: Correct---------Deviant One Ruler----Kingship--------Tyranny Few Rulers---Aristocracy-----Oligarchy Many Rulers--Polity----------Democracy So in a world that has been brutally traumatized by Western conxepts of civilization and governance does it behoove any Hindu to support such 'Democracy' over the steady, dedicated and life-long committment that is represented by the Hindu form of governance? Does anyone seriously believe that the solution to Nepal's artificailly induced crisis is to turn to the very form of governance and polity that is destroying the planet? Is the track record of the Western democracies (including India's Western Democracy) so obviously superior and functional that Nepal must now abandon its ancient formula for governance? I dont see it. I see Nepal with a case of an artificially induced yet survivable illness. Now Nepalis are being told to inject the Nation with a cocktail of virulent foriegn anti-bodies and deadly diseases in order to regain its National Health in the name of 'Democracy.' (Accuratelly called 'demon-crazy' by Vaishanava Acharya A.C. Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada.) Of course Hindu civilization is no stranger to authentic Democracy. In Indigenous civilizations, Democracy is the tool used when Government has collapsed and no longer functions. As in any endeavour, this is the time when choices must be made. Perhaps such a time has come having been forced unto the people of Nepal. Perhaps the direct goal is the destruction of the world's last reamining Hindu goverment. So yes you can be a Hindu without supporting the King of Nepal but the Hindu governance of Nepal can not survive without the support of the Hindus of Nepal. If the King is not truly fulfilling the role of a Hindu King will destroying the institution of the King be the solution? Hindu history had its bad Kings but the idea of destroying or neutering the Monarchy as the solution is not the Hindu way. I ask,"Is there no significance that Nepal is the only country in the world to intentionally invoke Krishna, Sita-Ram,Hanuman,Siva-parvati, Lord Ganesha, the Gita, Vedic Yajna, Sanskrit, Pujas etc into the rituals and symbols of the Nation-State? The King is the only Head of State to feature Krsna-Arjuna in his office. Perhaps this may seem insignificant but to a Hindu and Bhakta it represents connectivity to the ancient and living Divinities of Hinduism. So again, I dont claim to know as much as you Nepalis about the exact sitaution on the ground in Nepal. However I do know the impact of Westen style democracy.I do know what happened whenever Maoists or Marxists gained political control of a nation. Cambodia, Mongolia, China, Russia, Laos, Cuba, North Korea, Myanmar etc The death toll stands at about 200,000,000. Whats the death toll of the Nepal monarchy in the past 100 years? Excluding combat operations its pretty much near zero. So please keep a historical perspective. The King may have issues and may not be the best person for the role but no one can honestly say his negatives are as dangerous to the world and Hinduism as the known peril represented by the Maoists. I believe that Hindus and Nepalis should begin the process to have the Hindu Government of Nepal declared as a rare and living heritage to be officially protected and preserved through a proclamation from the United Nations. If ancient ruins and animals can be officially protected in this way, surely the day to day relevance and functionality of Nepal's ancient and valuable institution of Raja-Niti or Governance can be protected as well. I look forward to hearing any and all responses. As in the ancient Hindu tradition, differences of perspective within a tradition are normal and not a cause for enmity but an oppurtunity for dynamic and interactive communications. Jaya Sri Krsna.
