Namaste,

It is not a bug or a problem.

The names of the months are based on the sign in which Sun and Moon conjoin

when the month starts. Based on ayanamsa, the sign can change. Then the

month names can change.

For example, Sun and Moon conjoin at 29 deg 37 min in Cancer on Aug 15, 2004

(using Lahiri ayanamsa). This means the month is Sraavana month.

If you use an ayanamsa that is 40 min less than Lahiri, the longitude at

which Sun and Moon conjoin on Aug 15, 2004 changes to 0 deg 17 min in Leo.

This changes it to Bhaadrapada month!

Thus, the month names can change in border cases (i.e. when there is an

adhika/excess month) when ayanamsa is changed.

I am cc'ing this mail to vedic astrology list for general benefit.

May Jupiter's light shine on us,

Narasimha

Namaste,

Thanks for the reply. I am afraid I have a few more questions.

1) In absence of any basic knowledge of Thithi Pravesa, your

explanation implies that people born in Nija Masa should rather be

looking at the succeeding month for Annual Tithi Pravesa. For example,

let's say someone was born in Nija Sravana Sukla Padyami, in which case

Sun and Moon and are conjunct their (next)annual tihti pravesa occurs

Bhadrapada Sukla Padyami! People born in Adhika masa should be looking

at that same month? I would appreciate if you could provide a primer

on tithi pravesa particularly focusing on masa interpretation or if one

exists, please point me to it.

2) Your answer also raises the spectre of Sri Rama being born in Nija

Chaitra! I don't think Sage Valmiki mentioned anything like that. In

which case, ayanamsa is a non-linear fucntion.Any comments?

warm regards,

Vishnu
