The reason being, there is neither approval or denial of the reasoning given by any learned member. Since our group discusses only what is laid down in BPHS, the last posting done had support quoted from BPHS. What more can anyone do? And the arguemts go on..... Parashara in the begining of Grahaswaroopadhya says that "satvam kujo" and "Bhrugu veerya pradayak" in the shloka 13 and 14. So karak for satva is Kuja. Parashara as well attributies karakatva of "Sheel"(aachar) and "Brahma" with Kuja. So Brahmachari(Brahma aacharti eeti Brahmachari) is Brahmasheel. This means that Brahmachaya attributed to Kuja is correct as far as BPHS is concerned. SO when you say that basic requirement for brahmachari is satvaguna, you should take into consideration karatava for stava and not the grahas with satvaguna as Kuja is tamogunik but satva karak where as Guru is satvaguna but putra karak and as well Niyog karak. Moroeover Satva means naturalness or swabhavadharma. To retain that one has to exert and kuja provides that required courage and strength. True Brahmachari will have lot of Teja which is again attributed to Kuja. So I think Brhanacharya should be attributed to Kuja. Just thought of expreesing in this 'basically forgotten' discussion! Satva in the shloka you refer to relates to strength, as does Veerya to semen, these are not mental attributes of those planets. I was just pointing out that Parashara attributtted karakatva of 'Satva','Sheela',and 'Brahma' with Kuja. Since Sheela is to do or to practice i.e Aacharan. The stava(strength/naturalness) required to practice(Sheela) brahma (Brahmachari) is under the domain of Kuja. So Brahmacharya comes under the domain of Kuja. Where is the contradiction ? Why did you feel that I wanted to suggest that Parashara did not know what he was talking about? Being Tamasik is the 'Guna' and not 'karakatva' of mars. This is what I understand. That's one reason why Kuja Dosha is bad.(ofcourse these are general terms) While analysing the chart of Ramana Maharshi,(Notable Horoscopes) the great Dr Raman stresses the point that Mars who's in the 7th in his Horo, is in the nakshatra of Ketu hence it is not bad. (Raman Ayanamsha). In Prashna Tantra translation He gives the karakatwa of Sex Lust for Mars.The various combinations involving Mars described in classics also prove this. Guest guest Posted June 18, 2004 Report Share Posted June 18, 2004 Dear Chandrashekhar ji Namste The shloka is this: "Satva Sadbha Bhumi Putra Sheela Chaurya Roga Brahm Bhatru Parakrama Agni Sahas Rajashatru Karaka KujaH||" This is given in the book Mangal Vichar page no 21 by famous astrologer Shri Katwe.Since Shri KAtwe did not mention the number and Adhya of the sloka I can not give that. But he has described BPHS he reffered in detailed. Poosibly his Grantha and whatever is today available as BPHS is different. Shri Katwe has said that Parashara might be a Jyotish in the Kashmir Darbar and the Grantha must have been written somewhere around 1746. He has reffered to page no 20 as containing 'Lagnasarani' but in the book availble with me(BPHS Ranjan Publications 2002) there is no such thing. Moreover, later Shri Katwe refers to page no 655. On that page he says Lagna Udayaman Ghati Pale for 33 degree Akshainsh is given. The Ranjan Publication in Vol-2 on page 655 gives something else. He has written his books around 1930 to 1942. There is chance that his 'BPHS' is no more available or got corrupted. The BPHS what he reffered and what is today availble are possibly quite different. He has given the references to the publications of the Granthas he reffered in general but not specifically for each Grantha. He said that he reffered most of the granthas from the publications 1) Vyankatesh Steam Press Mumbai owned by Khemraj Shrikrishnadas 2) Chaokhamba Pustalaya Kashi 3) Pt. Narayana Mulajee. Kalabadevi Rd. Mumbai. If anybody who has old BPHS of either of the publication can confirm this. Thanks a lot for your Time and Space. This in respect of organs of Kalapurusha, is being discussed. Some are equating Guhya with Anus but not sexual organs. Therefore it is the physical organs which are being discussed. Its being house of occult or hidden things, death or ancestral property, are in other context altogether. Narasimha quoted other authorities just to indicate the meaning of the word Guhya used by Parashara. Unfortunately many are missing the point that if 8th is not the sexual organ of Kalapurusha, then he would be without sexual organs. Certainly not something Parashara could have intended to say. Guest guest Posted June 19, 2004 Report Share Posted June 19, 2004 Hello all--Sarabani, Chandrashekar, Laxmi, et all: You guys are crazy, I know decent Sanskrit and "Guhya" has two meanings, these are : Secret or secretive AND hidden or something THAT should be hidden. Rather than enter into meaningless and ridiculous discussions about vagina, labia, clitoris, phallus, anus, etc. etc., why can't we accept the stated meaning, i.e. organs that should be hidden and such organs would be one's private parts. I'm sure that at the time when BPHS was written, men and women didn't walk around NAKED--they at least covered their groin area--even the ancient Hindu/Indian paintings and sculptures we see, depict both men and women with cloth/covering around the waist/groin area AND both men and women are depicted bare-breasted. This tells us that at the time Parashara wrote BPHS, both men and women covered their groin area with cloth. This further tells us that Guhya means the organs or the area of the body that SHOULD BE HIDDEN. Now, stop all this craziness about minute description and classification of various excretory and reproductive organs--Don't you guys GET IT!!!!! irrespective of whether the function is EXCRETORY or REPRODUCTIVE, these have to be hidden/covered!!!! OR Do you guys pick and choose which one of your reproductory or excretory organ you hide from public or display to the public based on their Karakatatwa. I'm sure there is no confusion as to what area of the human body represents Scorpio--it is very clear that Scorpio represents the ENTIRE Groin and buttocks area and Scorpio is "Guhya" so this area of the body should be covered/hidden from public display. Well, at least something funny came out of this--"Nameisego" wrote a really funny dialouge between Shiv and Parvati on this subject.
