Dear Moderator,

 

Recently I joined the vedic Astrology list and I find the discussions

very interesting and educative. I want to read all the mesages from

the beginning. I find it very tiresome, at this age of 73 years, to

open the mesages one by one and read. During the past one month, I

could save and read only Jan and Febraury 1999 entries.

 

Kindly let me know whether there is a way by which I can download all

the message as a zip file in one shot and save considerable time. Or,

if there are zip files in sets, kindly let me know that also. I will

remain grateful.

You can read 30 messages at a time by clicking on 'Expand messages'

on the top left hand corner on the group's home page. You can

collapse messages again by clicking 'collapse messages' at bottom

left.

This might be of use to others also.

 

does not have any facility to download messages in bulk.

 

I am in the process of downloading messages from the group using a

script (2mbox.pl - its a perl script which you can download off

the internet). Because of download limits, I can only do about

200 messages a day from one computer (depends on message size also).

 

What I will have in the end is a sequence of files in blocks of 500

messages all in mailbox format ("mbox" format for the technically

inclined). The file can be opened by several email clients and you

should see each message separately just as you would with a regular

mailbox. It is also possible to convert the entire set of messages to

linked and indexed HTML pages using MHonArc along the lines of the

several mailing list archives available on the internet (RISA,

bhakti-list, etc.)

 

I can upload compressed mbox format files to the Files section of the

group with the permission of the moderator and if there is enough

interest in having access to messages offline in that format.

 

Meanwhile, if someone wants these files sent to them privately, please

email me off-list. Please note that as of now I have been able to

download only the first 500 messages.
