Namaste friends,

I was busy and could not read all the posts. Posts relating to administrative

matters (e.g. moderation on the list) have already been replied to, though I

was busy. I will now reply to some other points.

> I am wondering why Shri PVR is away from this discussion, mundane> astrology

is his fav and at these times his input is most wanted when> the whole

astrological fraternity is facing an attack.

I was just pressed for time. Anyway, here are some thoughts for whatever they are worth.

(1) Congratulations to those who made various correct predictions related to the elections!

(2) If astrologers are under attack by non-believers or if astrologers

advocating certain techniques are under attack by other astrologers, so be it.

If a majority of astrologers go wrong, others are justified in questioning. If

someone like me who promotes certain techniques goes wrong, people are

justified in asking why they should pay attention to those techniques. It is

neither important nor productive to argue with critics. What is important is

understanding why we went wrong. The needs of the hour are humility to accept

our shortcomings, sincerity to pursue the teachings of maharshis and eagerness

to improve our understanding.

It is clear to me that none of us has perfect knowledge. It is clear that our

limited understanding of the great teachings of sages is quite fallible.

(3) If some youngsters are disillusioned with astrology, the only thing I can

say is - it is normal, but try to keep going. I am convinced that the teachings

of maharshis have a lot of worth. Our understanding is simply imperfect and we

should try to improve.

Despite our shortcomings, whatever work we do will help the coming generations

in understanding the teachings of maharshis even better. Sincere effort never

goes waste!

I never said I was a great or good astrologer. If someone insults me, it is

perfectly reasonable and acceptable. But, Pt. Sanjay Rath is a great

astrologer. So many of us are so indebted to great teachers like Dr. B.V. Raman

and Pt. Sanjay Rath for our knowledge. Every astrologer has some spectacular

successes and some terrible failures. The glee some members showed at Pt.

Rath's failed prediction is deplorable. Such negative attitude does no good to

one.

> Hence i asked if u all can see some progress of India in the coming> years

from India's chart.

I made a prediction in 2001 on this list and on my website that 2002-2011 will

be excellent for India. This prediction was made based on India's independence

chart and its Narayana dasa (a rasi dasa). Libra dasa containing Jupiter with

Viparita Raja Yoga runs then.

So India will continue to do well and will slowly rise in stature until 2011.

But, within this 9 year dasa, Feb-Nov 2004 is relatively not so good. Taurus

antardasa in Libra dasa runs then. Taurus is 8th from Libra. While dasa sign

contains Jupiter, antardasa sign contains Rahu. Even in dasa pravesha chakra,

Taurus contains Rahu in the 12th house. So 2004 Feb 11 to 2004 Nov 14 is a

relatively low period. Rahu undoes Jupiter's work. But next antardasa of Aries

will again be good.

> I hope someone makes a note of the swearing in ceremony of whichever> Govt

comes to power and then senior members make some predictions.

I will give my analysis of the swearing-in charts when I get time. Usually these

charts are much much more reliable than the birth charts.

It was on the basis of Vajpayee's original swearing-in chart that I had

predicted that India would have some "confrontation" with another country after

May 19, 1999 (Kargil war started on May 25, 1999). It was not on the basis of

Bush's chart, but on the basis of his swearing-in chart, that I had predicted

that "there may be some serious setbacks or national tragedies" and that

"though Bush asserted at the time of campaign that US troop deployment abroad

should be reduced and suggested that US should be more "humble", Mars in 7th

suggests that US will continue to play an active military role in international

affairs and intervene in the affairs of other nations."

Political leaders, especially in India, do circulate wrong charts. They can hide

their real birthdata, but they cannot hide swearing-in charts!

Someone suggested Libra lagna for Vajpayee to explain the loss. Honestly, I

don't think that's needed. In a lecture on Moola dasa at Edison last year, Pt.

Sanjay Rath did mention that Vajpayee was changing Moola dasa at the end of

2003 and that he would soon go.

Even I mentioned before elections that Vajpayee would soon be replaced by

another leader. I was clearly aware of the Moola dasa change. Moola dasas

taught by Varahamihira and Kalyana Verma are aligned with phases in life.

Vajpayee ran Sun's Moola dasa during 1999-2003. Sun is in Komala shashtyamsa

and shows good karma. In rasi, he is the 10th lord. In D-10, he is the 10th

lord in 5th. So he gave political power.

But Rahu is in 8th in rasi and in 12th in D-10. His Moola dasa runs from Dec 2003 to Dec 2012.

I was expecting Vajpayee to be replaced. But I was expecting him to be replaced

by a BJP leader and not by a Congress leader.

Mohd Imran sent a nice mail on the bias of astrologers etc. In my view, bias is

only one problem. There are other problems too, in political astrology:

(1) Wrong birthdata is circulated to politicians intentionally. Because

political predictions are so 'thrilling', many astrologers are so eager to make

them (I am not pointing fingers at anyone - this criticism applies to me as

well). They often readily accept wrong data. Wrong data leads to random

predictions.

Birthdata of political parties is questionable. Political parties metamorphose

into other entities and vice versa. For example, should we take the Lok Sangh

chart or BJP chart or NDA chart? Party charts are questionable. Charts of

leaders are useful, but not always available accurately.

(2) Of course, bias is an issue too. Bias plays a role at different levels. When

we rectify a politician's chart, we rectify based on our understanding of the

politician. Our bias impacts our rectification. Secondly, our predictions can

also be colored by what we want to happen, especially when it is a close call.

In cases where the indications are crystal clear, we can overcome our bias.

But, in cases where there are mixed indications and a fine judgment needs to be

made, it is easy to be swayed by the personal bias.

(3) The simple fact that our knowledge is imperfect is a factor too.

But, if our success rate is 70% overall, it becomes 50% in political

predictions, for the above reasons.

In the Sonia Gandhi chart being discussed, I noticed that 7th lord Saturn is in

lagna. In such cases, Dwisaptati sama dasa applies according to Parasara. From

what I am taught, this condition shows certain strong desires. Dwisaptati sama

dasa helps in timing the fulfillment of the desires. Moon shows desires. Moon's

dispositor Mercury is in 5th. So Dwisaptati sama dasa helps in timing events

related to power in this case.

Dwi-saptati sama dasa (applicable if lagna lord is in 7th or 7th lord is in lagna):

Maha Dasas:

Antardasas in this MD:

(19:11:19) - 2007-10-23 (20:12:01)

In Moon dasa, she enjoyed power on account of her mother-in-law. Nearly full

Moon owns lagna and is a benefic. Being in the 2nd from arudha lagna in rasi

chart, he shows increased status and resources. He shows power due to mother or

mother-in-law. Especially, Moon owns the 4th from UL and shows mother-in-law.

Husband became India's PM in Mars-Venus antardasa. From the 7th house in

navamsa, Mars is 9th lord in 9th with 5th lord and Venus is 10th lord in 10th.

He shows good events in husband's career. In rasi chart also, Mars is in 8th

from AL. Being a yogakaraka, Mars is a benefic for Cancer lagna. A benefic in

8th from AL gives a sudden rise. Thus, her husband suddenly became PM and she

experienced the power.

Mercury is a functional malefic in rasi and D-10 charts and not well-placed.

Mercury dasa started in October 1989. If I remember correctly, it was around

then that Rajiv Gandhi lost elections (Nov 1989 I think).

Jupiter dasa is running now. As Jupiter is a benefic in 6th from AL, his dasa

gives the image of a renunciate in the matter of power. Right now, Sun

antardasa is running. Jupiter owns 5th in D-10 and Sun occupies it.

Another point: Tribhagi Vimsottari dasa shows the progression of mind with time

thru the 360 deg zodiac in 120 years.

Vimsottari Dasa - Tribhagi variation (started from Moon):

Maha Dasas:

The current Mercury dasa is basically the dasa of Jyeshtha nakshatra (13th dasa

from the first dasa - 13th star from Moon's star). Please note that AK Sun is

in a trine from lagna. He is in the 5th house of power (though eclipsed by

Ketu). Both Sun and Ketu are in Jyeshtha star. They give their results in

Jyeshtha dasa, i.e. current Mercury dasa. Please note that the results of

yogakaraka Mars are given in the next dasa of Moola (Ketu), during Nov 2008 to

March 2011.

I will try to write more on Sonia Gandhi's chart later.

BTW, I subtracted a little more than 2 min from the given birthtime to explain husband.

If a particular astrologer makes a correct prediction, it neither proves his/her

techniques nor does it confirm the birthdata used. It is possible to make

correct predictions with incorrect techniques or even incorrect birthdata.

For example, I used annual TP chart to predict a viparita raja yoga and a sudden

reversal from one extreme to another for Sachin Tendulkar during Dec 24,

2003-Jan 4, 2004. He made only 150 test match runs in cricket in the whole of

2003 and was at his lowest. During Jan 2-4, 2004, he made 302 runs in two

innings without getting out (double the runs he made in entire 2003). Though

the prediction came true spectacularly, a respected astrologer wrote on another

list that the birthdata I used was wrong and that he was privy to a different

accurate birthdata thjat he could not reveal. There is no strong reason to

disbelieve him. So it is likely that the data I used is wrong. Bottomline:

However spectacular a correct prediction is, it does not prove anything.

Irrespective of successes and failures, we have keep our humility, sincerity,

inquisitiveness, intellectual honesty and conviction that our knowledge will

become perfect oneday - if not in this life, in another life.

Good night!

May Jupiter's light shine on us,Narasimha
