Dear Vijay,

Here's afew words on Panchang. In literal parlance Panchang means

five-limbs, and in science of Jyotish it referred to the pancha-

mahabhutas or pancha-tattwas i.e. five element of time. As the

Luminaries (Sun and Moon) are two most essential reference point for

time measurement, therefore their indiviual and collective

combinations are linked with five elements as;

1) Ether Akasha Yoga(27 daily luni-solar combination)

2) Fire Agni Vara(7 weekday)

3) Earth Artha Karna(11+4 half lunarday)

4) Air Vayu Nakshatra(27 lunar asterism)

5) Water Jala Tithi(30 lunarday)

These elements of time are generally used in electional astrology

i.e. mahuratum, e.g; starting new venture, marriage, voyage, buying

or selling house, vehicle, etc.

Now, as we know that Agni(Fire) stands for sustainence and

dominance, and it is related with Vara(day), therefore if we choose

beneficial day with respect to mode of task/work then it will surely

gives it sustainablity and long life. e.g. marrying on Friday,

Thursday or Monday is advicable thus.

Similarly, tattwa Vayu(air) is linked with Nakshatra. A beneficial

or supporting nakshatra yields better communications and harmony on

mental plane in between persons/objects involved. Hence all tasks

required communication/information/socialibility should starts when

the Moon is passing through beneficial nakshatra.

In practice, the collection of elements are more significant than

any single element. That is, a benefic weekday or a tithi or a

nakshatra is not as powerful as their combinations(yoga).

Vara+Tithi, Vara+Nakshatra, Vara+Tithi+Nakshatra, etc. These

combinations(yogas) have various fomrs and names, including; Subha,

Amrita, Siddha, Sarvartha Siddhi, Sri, Shobhana and Suta Yogas.

You can find them in detail from B.V.Raman's book "Mahurata-

Electional Astrology" or also from Ernst Wilhelm's webpage

http://vedic astrology.net/

Moreover, today I have also added a file "VEDIC CALENDAR" in the

archive section of this group in folder of astroimran,

Hope these stuff will prove helpful for you.

Imranji,

Good explanation on Panchangam! Thank you very much!

Panchang means five-limbs, and in science of Jyotish it referred to

the pancha-

mahabhutas or pancha-tattwas i.e. five elements !

Very true Sir. But you have mentioned, they are mostly used for

muhurtas mainly!

Can we extend it to natal horoscopy? As per my knowledge concerned

every thing in universe is created using these five basic elements!!

Am I correct? If so then Pls throw some light on using these five

tatwas or elements at birth! OR in prasna and muhurta is very well

explained by you!

If any one can throw light on this topic more deeply!! I got this

Idea from village side in Maharashtra, many times people when they

come for astro consultation they used the words "Panchangam" very

frequently! Hence I get this thought!!

Learned members & Gurus are requested to share their valuable

information with guide lines!
