How to determine whether moon is waxing or waning?

Hello everyone,

I would be very thankful if somebody could tell me

that how do we determine that whether a moon is waxing or waning in

a chart?

Dear Hemandra -

 

The waxing phase (or sukla paksha) of the moon is when the angle between the

sun to the moon is between 0deg and 180deg. It is also the time when the

moon becomes fuller and fuller to eventually produce a full moon (pournima).

The waning phase (or krsna paksha) of the moon is when the angle between the

sun to the moon is greater that 180degrees but less than 360 degrees. During

the waning phase the moon starts to loose it's fullness to eventually

produce a new moon (or amavasya).

Dear Hamendra,

If Moon is ahead of Sun up to 7th house from Sun till degrees of Sun it

is waxing ahead of that it is waning. Every 12 degrees that he goes

ahead of Sun is the Waxing phase representing one Tithi. Exactly 180

degrees from Sun is Purnima. From that point onwards the waning phase

starts. When Moon joins Sun it is Amavasya.
