Guest guest
Satyam Bruyat Priyam Bruyat, Dear Narasimhaji, Thank you for a very nice write up. Just thought will check with you if the divisional ruler indicated in the JHL, a feature that we may not have explored? Hope we are not expecting too much to be packed into this very useful software! Regards Ramesh Narasimha P.V.R. Rao [pvr (AT) charter (DOT) net]Sunday, April 04, 2004 9:46 PMTo: vedic astrologySubject: [vedic astrology] Using Divisional Rulers!!!! Namaste friends, I have been mostly off the list, spending 13 hours a day at work. I had a few minutes today and quickly browsed the list. I saw a few mails on amrita shashtyamsa. It is very good to see some people paying attention to these important details! But please note that such classification of divisional deities (or divisional rulers) was given by Maharshi Parasara for all divisional charts and not just shashtyamsa. For example, rulers of the ten directions (Indra, Agni etc) rule the ten divisions of a sign as per Dasamsa (career). At the end of this mail, I am enclosing a small description from an article I wrote for a magazine. When we interpret rasi chart and divisional charts, this is the one aspect that I see most astrologers missing. This is sad. A lot more work needs to go into this and people need to start using these things. Parasara would not mention them if they had no use. Let us look at a simple example. A well-known astrologer, whose identity I will not reveal, thinks that the teachings of great sages do not apply today. He came up with his own astrological system and so many impressionable minds are swayed by his writings. He commands good following and spreads his own views. His students tell you that a lot of the teachings of maharshis, including many yogas, do not work. Instead of trying to understand the teachings of venerable Sages correctly, these people just dismiss them. This gentleman has Jupiter in Pisces in the 10th house. As such, it will make you think that he is doing excellent karma (10th) related to astrology (Jupiter). However, if you dig deeper and look at the dasamsa ruler of Jupiter, you will see that Jupiter is in a dasamsa ruled by Nirriti in this gentleman's chart. This completes the picture. If you look at the description I gave below for Nirriti, you will understand that Nirriti is a demoness, who shows adharma. Being in 10th in own sign, Jupiter does show some activities related to astrology and traditional knowledge, but the direction taken in these activities is shown by Nirriti. Thus, this gentleman spreads adharma. If you do not realize that Jupiter is under Nirriti's control as far as activities (dasamsa) are concerned, you will not get the complete picture! On this auspicious day of Pournima (Full Moon day), I want to advise all to pay attention to the divisional rulers of planets in various divisions. You can get all the definitions from BPHS. This is a very important aspect of judging charts. May Jupiter's light shine on us,Narasimha PS: Tonight is another good time to do Satya Narayana vratam. Anybody who wants to attend it at my home is welcome to call (508) 839-1218 and drop in at 7 pm. We'll be glad to have you. Those who want a simpler alternative to the vratam can take bath and chant "Om Namo Bhagavate Satyadevaaya" 108 times. Take a vow to speak truth and pray to Satya Narayana (or Satya Deva), the embodiment of Truth, on this Full Moon day. His blessings will take one to the highest loka of Satya Loka. -------------------------------- © P.V.R. Narasimha Rao, 2004. You cannot copy this material without author's permission. Indra: Indra is the king of gods. He symbolizes power and authority. Planets in Indra's dasamsa indicate activities related to power and authority. Agni: Agni is the god of fire, which represents all the transformational energy of the universe. Agni does not just represent the physical fire that our eyes can see. There is a transformation involved in many things. Examples are digestion of food and understanding knowledge. The energy facilitating that transformation is represented by Agni. Planets in Agni's dasamsa indicate activities involving transformation. They can show engineers, designers, legislators etc. Yama: Yama or Yama Dharma Raja is the god who upholds dharma. He is responsible for taking the lives of living beings. Planets in Yama's dasamsa indicate activities related to enforcing rules and meting out punishment. They can show policemen, soldiers, judges etc. Nirriti: Nirriti is the daughter of Adharma and Himsa (violence) and mother of Bhaya (fear), Mahabhaya (great fear) and Mrityu (death). She presides over fear, calamity and death. Planets in Nirriti's dasamsa indicate activities related to irreligiousness and adharma. They can show illegal and rebellious activities. Varuna: Varuna is the god of waters. Planets in Varuna's dasamsa indicate activities related to patience, persistence, and travel. Vayu: Vayu is the god of wind. Planets in Vayu's dasamsa indicate activities related to strength and gaining strength. Kubera: Kubera is the god of wealth. Planets in Kubera's dasamsa indicate activities related to money. Isana: Isana is a form of Shiva, who presides over religiousness and knowledge. He gives very auspicious results. Planets in Isana's dasamsa indicate activities related to religiousness, righteousness and knowledge. Brahma: Brahma is the creator. While the eight deities mentioned so far rule directions in the two-dimensional space, Brahma and Ananta rule the two directions in the third dimension. They both show expansive and pioneering activities. Brahma rules over the downward direction. Planets in Brahma's dasamsa indicate activities related to digging deep and finding truth. For example, scientists go deeper and deeper to understand the mysteries of universe. Ananta: Ananta means the endless and infinite one. He is a form of Vishnu. While Brahma represents rajoguna, Ananta represents sattwa guna. Digging deeper and deeper is the rajasik approach represented by Brahma, while rising higher and higher is the saattwik approach represented by Ananta. Planets in Ananta's dasamsa indicate activities related to spiritual rise and upliftment.Archives: vedic astrologyGroup info: vedic astrology/info.htmlTo UNSUBSCRIBE: Blank mail to vedic astrology-....... Guest guest
Dear Narasimha Ji It was nice to see the importance of each division being considered after verifying the Rashi. Similar to the ruling dieties there may be numerous other indications to check for the significance of that particular division. Divisional charts are really important and the key lies in the way one interprets it. With the frame of refernece as lagna in the Rashi - each and every subsequent indication like 64th navamsha ,22nd drekkana, or any other could be deduced. All the confusions have arisen because of the basic understanding of the term Varga or Division. When we understand that Varga in astrological terms, refers to Division of a Sign (as per Parashara) all dark clouds will vanish. D-1 is also a divisional chart why? It represents division of each sign in Rashi by 1 or in other words each sign in full (as division by 1 will not make any difference). Similarly D-2 represents each sign in rashi divided by 2 and D-3 represents divison by 3 and so on. The usage is - A particular division in each sign has a significance.10th division in each sign refers to Karma or profession and 9th division in each sign refers to Dharma. The one related to diety ruler mentioned by you helps us in identifying one of the importances or significance of a division. Thus Rashi is the broader and the main division from which all other divisions can be deduced.Various vargas are nothing but grouping together of planets based on the type of division to see the specific indication. The main Canvas is Rashi. This will make us have a complete picture. The sum of independent parts never makes the whole. The whole has to be seen in full to comprehend. The aim should be to note down the various methods for analysing the divisional indications.Narasimha ji your good knowledge in sanskrit and astrology can be used as an advantage here. For example divisions of planets in combustion are treated bad by parashara. This is a good rule. Here combustion is referred to in Rashi and hence it clearly reiterates the frame of reference as rashi. At the same time the divisions of planets which lords kendras or trines to AL are good divisions.Again AL is referred to in Rashi. Understanding the pure meaning of Varga will be the greatest understanding as far as the usage of Divisional Charts are considered.
