Guest guest
Respected Sir, What you say makes sense to me. However as a beginner I need some thumbrules. The most complete one yet is the one in Rayudu's Book. It gives negative and positive points for various things: natural nature, functional nature, exalted/debilitated, nakshatra, acpects of funcional benefic/malefic, retrograde, vargottama, nakshatra. These are calculated for each planet and each planet gets a number. If the +ve numbers are > negative by a large amount then the overall effects are benefic, otherwise not. What is your opinion on this method? Is this useful for a beginner to start with? regards Kanwar vedic astrology, Chandrashekhar <boxdel> wrote: > Dear Kanwar, > Astrology learning is a difficult process, but one can learn with > perseverance. Guest guest
Dear Kanwar, I am of a generation which believes that reduction of planetary strength by finite numbers, while attractive, does not yield the results projected. I have not read Rayudu's book so it would not be right for me to comment on it.The nearest system for going in that direction is the Ashtakavarga system, and you may try it. I have not found it infallible, so probably you will have to go about it the old fashioned way to understand the philosophy of astrology, without which near accurate predictions are difficult. Guest guest
Dear Kanwar, There are two general ways to learn. (a) Learn by heart (via reading, writing) (b) Learn by doing (via listening, seeing, performing) Traditionally, both ways of learning was to adopted simultanously. But your problem pretends that you fall solely into second category mentioned above. Understanding through books seems a difficult and cumbersome task for you. Therefore its my humble opinion, that search a Astrology tutor(GURU) and proceed further. Try to join company of astrologers/friends and listen their discussion, and observe how to read a chart. Watch Astrology programme on TV or available Audio, MP3 CDs etc. And regarding your query about confusion, respected Sri Chandrashekhar explained it lucidly, in a nice manner. Remember, Astrology is a multivariate and multidimentional sceienc- cum-art. Loosely saying, the computational part of Astrolgy comes into science, and analysis segment falls into art. You are trying to formulate "art" i.e. qualitative element. We know quantitative elements can be formulated but qualitative can not be formulated, but just approximated or tends to approach. It attains perfection with Experience and Intuition. The work of B.V.Raman in "Three Hundred Important Combinations" chapter 1; P.V.R.Rayudu in "How to Read A Horoscope" chapter chapter II, and III; V.K.Choudhry in his all books and on online articles; all are innovative attempts to ease the qualitative analysis after converting priciples into algorithms. But it should be borne in mind that these formulai, algorithms, are not hard and fast rules. You can't learn to swim by just reading books, hence jump into pool... Take charts of family members and friends and learn to interpreate them under guidance of Guru or expert friend. Dont bother about deviations among authors and their formulations. Take ART as ART and SCIENCE as SCIENCE. By the way, just take your chart, and observe what Dasha and Transit you are going through, which are obstructing learning Jyotish.
