Thank you Hari,

 

I do not have VRA with me right now but will still get a copy and see

what it says. In fact I am interested in ascertaining whether the

classics mention anything about gems as remedial measures, or is this

system a produce of a more recent origin.

Try 'Vedic remedies in Astrology' by Sanjay Rath for an introduction

to this topic as well as some pointers to the classical texts on use

of gems as remedial measures.

Dear Deepak,

The classics do not mention this in an obvious manner.However they do

mention the Gems of the planets, their oil, Metals and so on. Further

they advice one to give Daana for inimical planets , which by

implication means one should wear the relevant Gems etc. of the benefic

planets. One has to consider the functional benefics for the purpose is

what one has to understand using his own Viveka. Many later day

astrologers have deviced different parameters and they could be right. I

prefer to stick to the meaning to be divined from the classics. Even

local customs indicate that this is the right path to follow. The

customs arrived out of sound basic principles given by the Ancient

sages. Some customs might be an abberated form of the original ones, but

that does not prevent one to try to fathom the meaning and principles

underlying them (Goodhaartha).

There is a book titled "The healing power of gemstones" by Harish Johari. He

has covered the subject matter quite in detail.
