Guest guest
Namaste friends, Like I said, a lot of people were very close. Most of you guessed the broad area correctly. I will give the answer to the puzzle. The event was receving a good job offer on telephone (which was eventually accepted). At the given time, I was talking to the director of software at a company and received a verbal job offer from him, which I basically indicated was acceptable to me. I'll be joining them after two weeks. Predicting a telephone call or predicting a job offer is not easy. Predicting good time in career and predicting a positive change in career is more practical. Many of you did it quite admirably. Congratulations! A lot of you thought there was a promotion or some kind of recognition in career. That is perhaps as correct as it can get. It's not completely accurate, but almost correct. A good job offer is pretty much like a promotion and certainly a recognition. When you use fine techniques like daily charts, the two are indistinguishable. Only higher level things like Vimsottari dasa antardasa, when correlated, can help one in distinguishing the two. It's not easy to be very specific when guessing the event. If I give an astrological explanation of how one could've solved this puzzle, it'll be dishonest. From my vantage point, the puzzle was not to identify the event but to see if a known [desired] event could happen at all and then to time it. Thus the puzzle was totally different from my perspective. I'll provide my astrological reasoning from my vantage point. I'll explain how I thought, starting from a couple of months back. If you want to know how to solve the puzzle, read the attempts of others. You'll get a pretty good idea, as there were pretty good attempts (even before I dropped clues!). * * * First see the forest and then see the trees (and then see the leaves on the tree and then see the cells in the leaf :-) ). Let us check Vimsottari dasa of the natal chart. Mercury-Mars antardasa is running now. Mars is the 8th lord from lagna and occupies 8th from dasa lord Mercury, both in D-10. Thus, this AD gives changes. I changed job at the beginning of this AD (on July 17, 2003). During Nov 2-Dec 28, 2003, Saturn PD in this AD was to run. I was extremely nervous before this PD started. Why? Because Saturn is 6th lord (sercvidce) in marana karaka sthana in D-10! From AD lord Mars, he is 3rd lord showing a break in service. There was a good chance of losing job. Moreover, annual Tithi Pravesha chart also had similar indications. Saturn's Tithi Ashottari dasa was running in Nov 2003. Saturn is badhaka in D-10 and occupiues the 7th house of break in service (7th is 2nd - maraka - from 6th - service). As if that wasn't enough, annual Tajaka chart showed the same thing. Patyayini dasa of Sun was to run from Oct 21 to Dec 19. Sun is the badhaka lord in 8th house in D-10. All these factors show job loss in Nov-Dec, 2003. So I was prepared for the worst. I noticed all these things in Sept-Oct timeframe and was concerned. In the middle of Nov 2003, the CEO of my company told us that there were some financial problems and that there would be a layoff soon. I was the last hired person (hired in July 2003) and was supposed to work on a next generation product which was postponed and not really working on anything critical. Others were working on key things. So it seemed likely that I would be laid off. The natal chart, TP chart and Tajaka chart also showed the same thing. I was doing several poojas during that week. :-) Finally, when the 30% layoff took place on Nov 21, I was spared. I was asked to take over the work that a laid off colleague was doing (but the guy left after Jupiter's annual TA dasa started. So Robben was spot on about what happened in Jupiter dasa - even though it did not happen on Jan 21, it happened in the same dasa she was commenting on!). It wasn't too challenging, i.e. not what I originally went to the company to do, and also I was sorry for that guy. Though I was glad I kept my job, I wondered if I should find another job and give back that job to that guy. I did not start full-fledged job search, but sent my resume to one place that was an excellent fit for me. That place, which is a great fit for my background, opened some reqs (job openings) the same day I joined my current company (in July 2003) and I saw the ad after returning from the first day of work on July 17, but I did not think it was appropriate to pursue it just after joining a new job. Now, after this layoff, I sent my resume there. Mercury PD as per natal Vimsottari dasa was to start on Dec 28, 2003. I was looking forward to it. While I was scared of the PD of Saturn in marana karaka sthana, I was excited about the PD of lagna lord Mercury in 9th (in D-10)! Another reason was that the commencement chart of Saturn PD had Saturn in 8th (duh), while the commencement chart of Mercuy PD had Mercury in 2nd (cool). Even as per Tajaka, Moon-Jupter AD as per Patyayini dasa was to run during Jan 11-27, 2004. Moon is 6th lord in rasi and Jupiter in in 6th. In D-10, Moon in 3rd and exalted Jupiter in 10th have an exchange! This strongly shows some good changes in career. Moon-Jupiter AD is a strong candidate. So I had high hopes from these 2 weeks. During Jan 19-29, it was Jupiter-Jupiter AD as per TA dasa in annual TP chart too. Jupiter is the 9th lord from lagna in AL in 4th in D-10. That also shows a positive time. So I had hopes for the second half of Jan. As per Narayana dasa of D-10 (of the annual TP chart), the middle one-third of Aq dasa is during Jan 10-27. This period also intersects with the above! Aq is lorded by Saturn and Rahu. One lord Saturn is in exalted 7th, showing the end of a job. The other one, Rahu, is in 12th, showing the end of worries (badhaka lord in 12th sho0ws end of worries). This also gave me comfort. Though I sent my resume in 2003 itself, I thought it could work out only in Jan. As I was expecting, they did not act on my resume during the holiday season. After the new year came (i.e. Mercury PD as per natal Vimsottari came), they contacted me. The interview took place eventually and I found out that they wanted to make an offer. I was expecting the offer on Jan 21, 2004, due to the strength of the daily TP chart (DTPC) on that day. It was supposed to happen a few days earlier, but it got postponed for some reason or the other. In the DTPC of Jan 21, hora lord is Moon. He is the ruler of the day. He has a VRY in rasi chart. He owns the 6th house of livelihood. More importqantly, he has a raja yoga with lagna lord Mars in the 5th house in D-10! Moon and Mars occupy GL (ghatika lagna - recognition, fame and power) in the 5th from lagna! To make it even more potent, Moon is AmK and Mars is AK!! Both are in benefic shashtyamsas as well. So I was almost sure the offer would come on that day. When I got indications on that day morning that the offer would indeed come on that day, I checked the compressed Vimsottari dasa of the daily chart. I was almost sure it would be Venus dasa. Why? Because Venus is the 9th lord and yoga karaka in lagna in rasi chart. He is AL lord in 5th from AL. He is in A3, which shows tangible communications. Being yogakaraka in lagna in A3, he brings good communications and cheer thru them. He is in a benefic shashtyamsa (kshiteesa, i.e. king). Even in D-10, Venus is the 7th lord of interaction in 3rd house of communications and initiative. So I was quite sure the offer would come after 3:40 pm EST (i.e. in Venus dasa). I had my eyes particularly on 4:25 pm to 4:55 pm (Moon and Mars AD's. Both occupy 5th from lagna - recognition - and 3rd from dasa lord Venus. Moreover, Moon is the ruler of the day). I received an email asking me to call him, stepped out of office and called him, received the details of the offer on phone and told him to go ahead and fedex the offer letter. This happened around 4:30 pm, in Venus-Moon. * * * Those who are curious can check the daily chart for the forenoon of Monday (Jan 26, 2004), to see a followup event. The data is: 25th January 2004, 9:56:38 pm (IST). The ruler of the day (hora lord) is Mercury. He is strong in own sign in the 7th house (Ge) in D-10. The 7th house is the 2nd (maraka) from 6th (service). No wonder I gave my two-week notice of termination in the forenoon of Jan 26 at my current company! A planet strongly placed in 7th in D-10 can bring the end of a job. Especially so, if the planet is the ruler of the day. However, in the same D-10, the 9th lord Sun is in Sg lagna and lagna lord Jupiter is in 5th with 5th lord Mars. This combination would make one expect recognition and fame in the day. Though the ruler of the day, Mercury, shows a resignation or job loss, lagna and lagna lord show some recognition. This can make one guess that this is not a layoff, but a resignation where the boss wanted to see if there was a way to keep the native. To see how the day would be for the boss, look at the 9th lord's graha arudha in D-10. It is in Aries. From there, the 4th lord Moon is in marana karaka sthana in 8th, along with enemy Rahu. It was a very bad day for the comfort and happiness (4th) of boss. * * * Never make predictions based just on daily charts. Strong combinations in daily charts do result in important events, but the exact nature is pretty much dependent on the natal chart, its dasas and annual and monthly charts. As I said, see the forest first and then the trees. When Jyotish works, it works beautifully. But it sometimes does not work. Clearly, our understanding is imperfect. * * * Thanks to all those who attempted the puzzle. Most of you did a great job and congratulations again! Some of you went in totally wrong directions, but that should not make you embarrassed. Explaining known past using fancy techniques is one thing and making predictions in practical cases quite another. Even timing an expected event (as I demonstrated above, so nicely) is much much easier than guessing an event totally blindly (as you guys did). It was a great show by all of you who tried! I am not sure if I myself would've done such a good job. We all know we are fallible and our understanding of Jyotisha imperfect. It takes courage to stand trial publicly. Building such courage is a necessary first step in a complete revival of Jyotisha. As a fellow astrologer and astrology researcher, I am proud of everybody who attempted the puzzle! Guest guest
Dear Narasimha, Eventhough I did not participate in this puzzle I wish to thank you for your valuable input. Looking at your explanation it sure 'fit' into your personal event. HOWEVER, I am very surprised that no proper answer has ever been given on the list to a very serious issue concerning jobs. Many qualified people are unemployed today for very long periods (some over 2-3 years), changing both mahadasa's and antardasas (in any dasa system) while their efforts to get a job are fruitless and the cause of many miseries. Many of them are not as lucky as you were to even get an interview, none the less not even a response to their application. Could you please (for the benefit of all here) find the time to describe the VALID rules for identifying long periods of unemployment for PREDICTIVE purpose. My experience so far has failed to identify this particular issue despite the points that were explained by Sanjay and others under various circumstances (like D-10 analysis (8th house etc.)). I usually use some palmistry rules (when available) which very often give proper indications for such a 'disaster' in a persons life. Thanks in advance. Thank you for taking the time. Guest guest
Namaste Gupta ji, I said many people got it almost right. I did not mention names purposely, in order to not disappoint anyone. If you feel that you got it "exactly right" and not "almost right", I am sorry for not mentioning it and congratulations. Dear Jay, you are right and D-10 is one of the most important charts these days. Also, unfortunately, there is no chapter on D-10 in "Varga chakra" book from SJC. I'll try to write a detailed article on D-10 and send it to the list soon. May Jupiter's light shine on us,Narasimha - Sathiyanarayana Gupta Narasimha P.V.R. Dear Shri. Narasimhaji, Regardless of the Dasa bukthi, considering the Gochra, the positions of Jupiter and Venus formed a SIMHASANA YOGA, Mercury in the 11th, I foresee family happiness and monetary benefits / a better placement. Guest guest
Dear Shri Narasimha, My guess was that you were going to "Head a new research effort and transform old ways of doing things, and make efforts towards this end" :-) So you did infact research, make efforts, and Head the research project? Now I can claim to have made "an accurate prediction" :-) Sorry, just kidding, couldn't pass up. Congratulations on getting a job of your liking.
