I have never really lived there, but my ancestors have been there for at least 20 generations. Yeah I agree that sand is annoying, have to keep washing them away all the time. I know of absolutely no one in my family who had cancer, not a single person I know in my extended died early on. My grandad passed away at the ripe old age of 85 - he was a famous lawyer of the area and towards the end of his life he lived only on raw cow's milk (not even boiled), supposedly this has some good properties if the cow is taken care of properly. I have never seen any 85 year old with so much energy, well, so much for the protein theory!!! I have a great-great aunt who is in her 90's and still going strong. All my grand-uncles and great-granduncles are in their 50's to 70's, I do not know of anyone having any health problems. Oddly enough, the only relatives I know with health issues live outside of India. So much for the radioactive BS :-). On my visits to the ashram, my observation was that most of the people there looked remarkably healthy and energetic and very happy. Sure there will be a small number of people with health issues. So I am confused now, are we even talking of the same place here LOL? I guess one has the choice to see the glass as half empty or half full. ::If you read the scientific article on this, the native people have somehow developed a genetic mutation making them immune to the effects of radiation as far as cancer. I think there are a lot of birth defects and disabilities though. So, you are not seeing the full picture. My concern remains for the non-Keralites and Westerners particularly; they are not included in those who have adapted over countless generations to this extremely high radioactive site.I read that it is the equivalent of 300 chest Xrays per year! I think anyone would agree that is unacceptable, by world standards and common sense. The only real argument is that the body is going to die anyway, so why not expose yourself to 300 chest Xrays per year. Isn't it something of an ethical issue, since few know about this risk?
