Guest guest
I haven't been responding to these posts, because I haven't wanted to get too far off topic. However, it is definitely my experience that cow's milk creates mucus. I got way many more sinus and bronchial infections before I stopped taking it (except Amma's prasad!). But much more importantly...I'd strongly encourage anyone consuming or advising the consumption of regular/significant amounts of soy (particularly those who have or whose family members have a history of thyroid/endocrine/metabolic/reproductive disorders) to do his or her own research into whether or not soy is as health-supporting as is widely (and, IMHO, often blindly) claimed. As one lady for whom more than occasional soy is definitely ~not~ good (due to a high level of phytoestrogens/toxins in soy that can act as endocrine disruptors and inhibit the absorption of certain nutrients), I'd say...be careful. While I don't want to belabor these issues here, I needed to respond to the comment about soy being supposedly good for women, because my reading does suggest the opposite. Guest guest
FYI Dr Jonathan Wright says that a very small amount of soy will raise TSH levels. So if a person has a squirrely thyroid you might want to check this out. Soy was supposed to be so good for us, now it's bad. amarnath wrote: > Ammachi, "ammasiswari" <ammasiswari> > wrote: > >... > > soy being supposedly good for women, because my > > reading does suggest the opposite. > > > > Be well, > > Iswari > > > > Ammachi, "Devi's Daughter" <devi.daughter@> > wrote: > > > > > > That's interesting. Guest guest
Regarding dairy, I bet most here did not know that raw milk is a cure for asthma. Strange, eh. - ammasiswari Ammachi Monday, May 15, 2006 9:54 AM Re: Sacred Cows; is dairy still sattwic? Guest guest
I don't think so much soy is good for any of us here who don't have a genetic background of dealing with it. I think it will be found to lead to many problems, especially in its variety of very processed forms. - amarnath Ammachi Monday, May 15, 2006 10:25 AM Re: Sacred Cows; is dairy still sattwic? Guest guest
There is a lot of research (both animal and human) that would support this argument (and even most traditional Asians do not consume much unfermented soy...fermenting can help kill some of the toxin, not sure about the plant estrogens). Some of it is pretty disturbing. Ammachi, "Mahamuni Das" <mahamuni> wrote: > > I don't think so much soy is good for any of us here who don't have a genetic background of dealing with it. Guest guest
When you are milk fasting, the milk (and fresh juices, not from concentrate) are all that you are imbibing, so that the mucus level goes down and your nasal passages clear up. But the fats from the milk make you feel vigorous and nourished. this is high quality happy cow organic milk only...there is a huge difference between good milk and bad milk. from alot of experience in fasting, Ive found that the milk fasts work amazingly well, which is probably why it has been the traditional method for yogis. Amma does this as well, I believe that she drinks a yogut drink and eats very little solid food. You can watch her do this on tour. My background is macrobiotics, which strongly discourages milk drinking...I used to be that way as well until I traveled to india, when i had to eat dairy. Now I see that milk is kind of a miracle food when used in the right way. God bless the cows!!
