Guest guest
Dear Mukund, You wrote- "I think there was a real person named Krishna who was an incarnation of God and the stories we hear about him are true, even though the stories about 16,000 wives and 10 children with each wife seem a bit absurd." I agree that its absurd for a human being to achieve that but Shri Krishna is God, the cause of all causes and all the planetary systems are situated in the region of His ankle. So what is His difficulty? I remember a nice allegory that i would like to present- Once Shri Narada was with Sri Vishnu and they were in discussion about the advancement of His devotees and who would qualify to reach Him first. They saw two apparent devotees on earth and one of them was a very pious brahmin, who kept all the regulated vows and was very learned in scriptures. The other devotee was a poor illietrate cobbler, who was sitting under a Banyan tree and mending shoes. Sage Narada enquired from the Lord as to who among these will reach Him first. The Lord replied that the cobbler was more qualified. The Lord replied that Sage Narada will find out why if he goes and talks to each of them, and since they are devotees they will definitely ask about what the Lord was upto and when they do the answer should be " He is trying to pass an elephant through the eye of a needle". Sage Narada descends to the earth and first meets the pious Brahmana. The moment the Brahamana sees the Sage he offers him all respects and enquires " what was the Lord doing when you were with Him". The sage gives a reply that the Lord was passing an elephant through the eye of a needle. The brahmana looked at the sage and said that it was absurd, as its an impossiblity. After that the sage goes to the cobbler and the same sequence takes place and when the cobbler is related the story, he becomes very happy and in a very devotional mood says," what is impossible for the Supreme Lord when He can keep this huge banyan tree in this small fruit". So its all about faith and thats not easy to develop. But a little faith can carry us a long way in this birth. That was just my two bits to this thread.
