Muhurta for starting business ( Mahalaya paksha)

Dear Shri Ramadas,

 

What is this Mahalaya period ie., pitru paksha? Yesterday, a friend

was telling that it is Mahalaya paksha while I have seen in

SureshBabus post the term pitru paksha. Can I infer that it is a

period during which our ancestors descend from the lokas to Earth?

Does it resembles the Hungry Ghost festival recently concluded,

during which period, the Chinese believe that their ancestors come

out and so they offer a lot of books, food by burning them?

 

I am asking the deeper meaning behind this term, how to determine

the period and what is to be observed/done in this period.
