Guest guest
I am not sure if this is the right forum for asking this question, but here goes anyway: I want to learn the symbolism behind hair. In almost all the cultures of the world, hair has deep symbolisms. Warriers always have sported long hair, and consider it utmost humiliation to cut off someone's locks. Priests usually have their heads shaved. On the other hand, there are those, that have head half shaved off, and the rest of the hair grows, this is visible among the shaolin monks, and even in India we have the concept of "Shikha". All the gods, on the on other hand, have long hair. Shiva is even symbolized by his "Jatas". I used to think, that hair is like a connection with the physical world. The roots of the hair go into the spiritual realm, and shaving ones head indicates our devotion to God and that we have given up the material world. But that is obviously wrong since all the Rishis are depicted with thick long hair. So what is the deal with the hair? And since we are on that topic, what exactly are the astrological indicators of hair?
