You are correct, the Janma Nakshatra is the Nakshatra where Moon is

in.

Janma nakshatra as used mostly is the Moon's Nakshatra.

Dear Shri . Venkatarama-sastry ,

The Janma nakshatra is the star or nakshatra occupied by the Moon

in the Rasi mandala .It could be ascertained from the Panchangha

and further confirmed by the following calculation :

 

Janana ghatiga + the number obtained from adding Aries to Lagna multiplied by 4

and then dividing by 27 and the balance is to be counted from Aswani for people

who have born during waxing period and from Dhanishta for who have born during

waning period.

Thus the point obtained or its thirukona point/nakshatra would represent Janma

Nakshatra.
