If you divide 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 etc by 12, you get 0, 1, 2, ... , 11, 0, 1, ... etc as the remainder. In the days of Parasara, counting was 1-based. If you divide 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 etc by 12, you get 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, ... etc as the remainder.
