You missed the entire point:

First and last letters MUST remain in their places.

Therefore a three letter word can not be 'manipulated' nor changed as you did.

NOW is now and NOT is not.

I do not agree. A word mispselt can convey an entirely different meaning.

Example: HE WILL NOT DIE
