Guest guest
Namaste Listmembers, Hello Jayashree, Thankyou for your thoughtful post. You wrote "Hindu philosophy states not all souls are granted moksha..." I haven't heard this before. I thought all souls 'eventually' attain moksha. Would you be so kind as to explain the definitions below as well? 1) Nithya Samsari 2) Nithya Papi 3) Punya Purush Please excuse my ignorance, these terms and ideas are new to me. Thanking You, Ann. Guest guest
Dear Ann, What I stated is from a book on Bhagawad Gita by LIFCO press, prefaced and lectured with translation by 'Keezhathur Srinivasachar'. The preface discusses on Dvaita, Advaita, Visishtadvaita. On Dvaita (God is different from me) established by Sri Madhvaacharya (this is the basis of Vaishnavite worship - worship of Sri Vishnu), the book says, Brahmam: Sriman Narayana is the Brahmam. Jeevan: Someone different from Brahmam. Dwells in the form of Manushya (man), Cow and Birds, and a lot of miscellaneous others. Classified into 3 categories: 1. Nithya Samsari, 2. Nithya Papi, 3. Mukti Yoga Jeevan (same as Punya Purush). Moksha: The knowledge on the distinction between i) Jeeva and Ishwara, ii) Jeeva- Paraspara iii) Jeeva-Jata iv) Jataparaspara, v) Jata-Ishwara leads to Moksha (I don't know the meanings of these, sorry , just translating from a book. Moksha is not granted for all jeevans. 1. Nithya Samsari: They are full of Rajo and devoid of any Sattwa. Without even the tiniest amount of Sattwa, there is no chance for Sattwa to emerge. Hence, they do repeated good/bad deeds, suffer, get born and die on a repeated cycle forever. 2. Nithya Papi: (The ever sinner) : They are full of Tamo guna, devoid of any Rajo and therefore, total absence of any Sattwa. They hate god, the Shastras, and the elderly. They always committ sins, die, get born, die, and always dwell in and like misery/causing misery. 3. Mukti Yoga Jeevans : (those who are destined to attain Moksha): These souls have Sattwa, which over the course of many, many births, grows so they get filled with 'Suddha Sattwa' or full of Sattwic qualities, and finally attain Moksha. In Moksha, based on the soul's ripening, essence, and sincerity, the happiness will have some differentiation. Though Dvaita, Advaita and Vishistadvaita all seem apparently different, it is my belief that they are based on whether someone is suited for Moksha by action (Karma yoga), moksha by intelligence/knowledge (Jnana yoga) or Moksha by simplicity and faith (bhakti yoga/devotion). BTW: I'm just a casual reader of Hindu philosophy and don't know deep philosophy Best regards, Jayashree vedic astrology, "Ann Murphy" <evie@r...> wrote: > Namaste Listmembers, > > Hello Jayashree, > Thankyou for your thoughtful post. > You wrote "Hindu philosophy states not all souls are granted moksha..." Guest guest
Namaste Listmembers, Dear Satya, I hope this message finds you well. You are a learned and knowledgeable man whose opinion I respect. If you have the time or inclination I would appreciate your thoughts... Having a Catholic upringing I am familiar with the concept of eternal damnation of the soul, however, I would have thought it incongruent with Vishnu worship. Do you know the origin of this principle, ie, was it expounded by a Guru of the Vaishnava lineage?. Also could you define Vishistadvaita, please. Thanking You, Om Shanti Ann. - Jayashree vedic astrology Saturday, September 13, 2003 4:59 AM [vedic astrology] Re: Materialistic Gains in Life Dear Ann,What I stated is from a book on Bhagawad Gita by LIFCO press, prefaced and lectured with translation by 'Keezhathur Srinivasachar'.
