Guest guest
Dear Shaileshji, Sridarji & Sanjayji Wonderful and eloquent explanation re Makar Sankranti. I enjoyed Sanjayji’s email and also Sridarji’s. I never knew the meaning of Sankrant and just followed it blindly. That Vargottama part clinched the deal for me. Is wearing of Gold auspicious on this day . Sun i s auspiciuos and Sun rules Gold if i am not wrong Do u feel the auspicious spreads from a few days range say from 14th to 16th – any time auspiciousness. I have read many yrs back that some days are considered auspiciousness and they have muhurtas thoughout the day. For me a few people from Mahabharta are very imp in my life and 2 of them are the Daanveer Karan and Bhishma Pitamaha. I was wondering why he was waiting for Sun to enter Capricorn. Sun in Sagi should also be good, a jupiterean sign. Although I understand the signficance and auspiciousness of Makara Sun but I wasn’t able to understand until it hit while I was driving – he was lying on a bed of arrows, and Sagi is arrows , dhanur which u had mentioned but I didn’t realize at that time and now when Sun enters Capricorn it leaves the arrows behind making way for his passage. What I gather from Shri Sridar’s post is that cosmically now is the time to reap benefits of the past few months. Thanking everyone and Sanjayji for the posts and also all those friends and new found friends who forwarded me the articles on TP. Thanks so so much Best love and Joy Sunil John Mumbai ------- Original message ------- Shailesh Rana <astrorana3 Thu, 15 Jan 2004 04:29:44 -0000 Subject: [vedic astrology] Re: Makar Sankranti Dear Sunil, I just wanted to add a few more input on Sanjayji's answers. I'm a novice too, so I call upon the Gurus to correct me wherever I might have gone wrong. First, Surya's Mahima is profound in the Vedas, that we all know well. Also, we've all read the introduction of Jyothish as Sun being the King of the navagrahas (and thus whatever he does, affects all). Now, focusing on Makara Sankranti.. Makara is the 10th house of the kalachakra (zodiac personified). 10th house is the strongest kendra, and Sun, one of the karakas of the 10th house (along with Mercury & Saturn), who gets Dik bala (DIRECTIONAL strength) in the 10th house also termed as Rajya=kingdom (Northern Direction), entering the 10th house, also the house of Saturn (another karaka for 10th) is definitely a GRAND ENTRANCE. So, much focus is on the 10th bhava probably emphasizing ->work like Sun, showing light to the world, karma without phala-asha..etc Of course, as pointed out by Sanjayji, Capricorn (Makara) is the beginning of Uttara-Ayana, the (apparent) northern movement of Sun along the zodiac (ecliptic) as viewed from Earth. Sun gets dik bala (directional strength) in the 10th house (the Northernmost point in a chart),so Makara is quite special for him as he gets ready to travel North. Also, Makara Sankranti, is well-known to Hindus as the day, awaited by Ganga-Putra Bhisma Pitamaha to leave his body & go to the heavenly abode. He had been waiting, lying on the bed of arrows (Dhanus=saggitarius=centaur with arrow facing up), for this special day, to leave his body. So maybe it signifies the penance(saadhana) done (signified by Dhanus-9th house of zodiac) & entering Makara the 10th house (also termed as Swarga=heaven). The 2 houses significant to Sun are Mesha (Aries, where it exalts=gives full results) & Makara (where it's entrance is considered so auspicious), apart from Simha, its Moola-Trikona. Note that from Mesha & Makara both, the 12th house is ruled by Jupiter, the auspicious one. Also, Makara is a moveable sign, so the 1st navamsa (9th division) is vargottama, which makes the Sun more stronger as it enters Makara. And Sun gives lots of its results in the 1st 5 degrees. These are just my observations as I meditate upon & please apply them with care.
