Guest guest
Dear Kanwarpreet: You bring up some very good points. The best way of thinking about benefic and malefic status of Planets is 2-fold. #1.... Benefic and Malefic are relative terms... The truth is that every Planet is 'basically' benefic. And the scriptural verification for this can be found in Parashara who says... "In the beginning Lord Vishnu enters into all the grahas to bestow upon his devotees the consequences of their actions." This indicates that within each planet is the eternal, one Lord Him/Herself.... who is the true source of the Planets' Nature. Another thing to remember is that the Planets are just bringing us the consequences of our actions, so the Planets themselves are kind of neutral. Depending upon our actions in the past, all kinds and manners of different strengths or weaknesses of Planets will result. #2..... It is also calculated that the Planets are described in terms of being relatively benefic or malefic depending upon which Houses they rule. Therefore, you are right the importance of the Rising Sign and which Planets rule the more malefic reflecting Houses, like the 6th, 8th and 12th.... is also true.... So, according to this idea we can look at your question: I have a Taurus lagana with Jupiter in 10th house. Moon is in the first house. Now Jupiter is vargottama and also retrograde. It receives no aspects. So will Jupiter be good for me? So, when you look at the Taurus Lagna, Jupiter is thought of as a kind of mixed Nature. It rules both the 8th and the 11th Houses... so it's inclined to be that Jupiter would be bringing some kinds of malefic effects. On the other hand.... some Jyotishees... say that the House is more important then the Sign that a Planet is in. Therefore, the fact that Jupiter is in your 10th House, may be very auspicious. One fairly reliable way of telling, also, is to look at your previous Jupiter periods. Especially if you can rule out any other influences like the Transits, back then, you can get a glimmer as to how that Planet has been functioning! One final idea: And that is.... that one can also think of the Planets as being indicative of our natural psychologys and physiologys.... at the time of birth. In other words.... our Charts is also indicative of our present 'state of consciousness' at the time of birth. And if our 'Wisdom' about some particular Planet has been weak in our daily life, it's certainly within life's 'possibilities'.... that we can improve and transform our selves... And this is one of the most important qualities in Life... is that we are born to grow....! It's in the very nature of life to grow and improve... And it's not really true...that we are only fated to do this or that... Human free will and freedom is at the very core of our human existence.... PS... another thing you'll learn in Jyotish...is that there's a variety of mixtures of different effects...that go into reflecting all of the subtelties...in our lives! So, your Moon is very good, Exalted in Taurus... but.... effected by being with Ketu and especially being only 4 degrees apart. And take sample as another example. Saturn is the yogakaraka for Taurus and Libra Rising individuals. As such it's described as being the most naturally, benefic Planet in their charts. However, even when Saturn is strong in someone's chart, ie. exalted or being in it's own sign, it seems to easily act fairly 'maleficlly' especially since we live in such an age that's soooo out of tune, with nature, and the basic rhythms of life, which are so reflective of Saturn! Another way to tell if any of your planets is acting 'maleficlly' is to look and see where that Planet is in your chart, and ask yourself... if it's results....are malefic or benefic. So, for example, is Saturn acting in a malefic way being in the 2nd... Are you being held back from Wealth.... or is Saturn bringing you spontaneous Wealth? Since Sani's in the 2nd....this is a good question. If you're feeling like Sani is acting maleficlly then Saturn is asking for your attention.... And we can strengthen and become more in-tune with any Planet if we learn how to become more balanced with it's Nature! Hope this helps, a little... take care Mark Kincaid PS..... I create also a daily Transits Jyotish Newsletter which traces each planet through each day. In watching the Transits...you can learn a lot about Jyotish, because, essentially, Nature lives, pure Jyotish...and by studying Nature, herself... you'll learn a lot of Jyotish. The newsletter is free. ---------- prashant narang <prashantnarang > vedic astrology Re: [vedic astrology] Question about benefic/malefic planets Thu, Nov 20, 2003, 7:05 PM attach ur j hora chart with ur mail prashant kanwarpreet_grewal <kanwarpreet_grewal > wrote: Hi, I have read some books on astrology but I am really confused about some points: 1) What are the factors that give the benefic and malefic roles to planets. Is it the ownership of houses/ or is it natural nature/ or is it placement in friend/own house etc. I have a Taurus lagana with Jupiter in 10th house. Moon is in the first house. Now Jupiter is vargottama and also retrograde. It receives no aspects. So will Jupiter be good for me? 2) is there a way to give a planet's nature a mathematical number something like: this planet will be X% good and Y% bad. Based on various factors. 3) I have installed the jagannatha hora lite software. And that shows me shadbala and ishtha phal/kashtha phal of various planets. Now how does that affect the benefic/malefic nature of planets? 4) Does a functunal malefic necessarily give bad effects. I am confused because there are several factors and I dont know how to weigh one against the other. My date of birth is 5 Oct 1974, 21:25 hours, jalandhar India, I am going throuh Rahu's mahadasha since 1992. And that has been really GREAT for me. Rahu is in scorpio and that is supposed to be debilitated. But I am haviing a good time, So this confuses me even more. I need help to understand these things Terms of Service <> .
