Is it the ownership of houses/ or is it natural nature/ or is it placement in friend/own house etc. I have a Taurus lagana with Jupiter in 10th house. Moon is in the first house. Now Jupiter is vargottama and also retrograde. It receives no aspects. So will Jupiter be good for me? 2) is there a way to give a planet's nature a mathematical number something like: this planet will be X% good and Y% bad. Based on various factors. 3) I have installed the jagannatha hora lite software. And that shows me shadbala and ishtha phal/kashtha phal of various planets. Now how does that affect the benefic/malefic nature of planets? 4) Does a functunal malefic necessarily give bad effects. I am confused because there are several factors and I dont know how to weigh one against the other. My date of birth is 5 Oct 1974, 21:25 hours, jalandhar India, I am going throuh Rahu's mahadasha since 1992. And that has been really GREAT for me. Rahu is in scorpio and that is supposed to be debilitated. But I am haviing a good time, So this confuses me even more. I did have a great time both financially and professionally during the times that you mention. So if I understand you correctly, the malefic and benefic nature of planets based on house ownership is just one thing. Their placement, aspects on them, their strengths etc all add up to their final nature. two last questions: 1) Will a career in Scientific research suit me? 2) What will my future Jupiter Mahadasha(2010 on) bring for me in my research and life in general. Coming to Guru Mahardasa , jupiter being an Amala yogakaraka should yield favourable results.Likewise,having caused the debility of Venus to remain null and void ,Jupiter ought to yield good results related to financial matters. Being in a kendra from exalted Moon no wonder should Jupiter yield agreable results pertaining to power and status.Being the 11th lord who is placed in the 10th he should give good profits ,a son ,good luck, a period bereft of any litigation etc.I remember to have read in Chandra kala Nadi,that during the fifth dasa from the Janma tara-dasa, the bhukthis of Moon and Mars should yield very good results.Yours is krittikai , the Jabnma tara.Jupiters dasa is the fifth dasa . I have couple of doubts regarding this analysis. 1)Amala yogakara . A natural benefic in 10th from moon or lagna results in Amala-Kirti yoga?.So is that the reason for Jupiter becoming Amala Yogakaraka. 2)During the fifth dasa from the Janma tara-dasa, the bhukthis of Moon and Mars should yield very good results.Is there any reason for Mars and Moon here.It is just out of curiousity.Also all sun ruled nakshathras will have jupiter as 5th dasha.Mine is also a sun ruled nakshathra hence the curiousity!Also how should fourth from janma- tara-dasha behave?Does this also have a rule that 3rd,6th etc dashas from janma tara will be bad and 4,5,7 etc may be good? 3)So can i understand that at the elementary level Dashas/Bhukthis Lords should be analysed from Lagna and Moon.Is there any rule which you have been following which yielded good success.I am a beginner thus so many primary questions!I am happy that by selecting the points from your previous analysis i was able to verify results from my own chart with success,by applying similar logic. However Functional benefic / malefics results are to be viewed from the point of view of their influence on the house that they tenant. Jupiter being Vargottama and retrograde will be powerful but the results will have to be seen as Lord of 11th and 8th.His inherent nature will also have to be taken into account Benefics give beneficial results more when strong as do even the Malefics. Week malefic has his malfeasance increased. 2 Ashtakavarga system is an attempt in the direction of giving values to planet's strengths as also that of Bhava. 3. The balas indicate strengths of the planets. Malfeasance or beneficence to be understood as at 1 above. 4. I am of the opinion that, Rahu should not be termed functional malefic or benefic as it is a Chayagraha, though some take it to be such. He would give results of the planets with whom he associates or whose house he tenants. When alone he gives results of Saturn. In your case being, presumably alone in Kendra he is capable of giving rise to Rajyoga during his Dashas and appropriate transit position. Add to this the fact that for Taurus Lagna Saturn is Yoga karaka and the results during his Dasha should be clear. Hope this helps. Try not to accept their translations in English blindly! Sanskrit may be more correctly translated into your mother toungue (which in all likelyhood is derived from sanskrit) than into English. Also, look into the computations, like in Shadbala meaning six balas. What each of the component means etc., Also read Sri Narasimha Rao's Vedic Astrology an integrated approach, which has many questions on strengths etc answered. Hope this helps. I am totally with you.This was mentioned to the list infact by Chandrashekhar ji many times,that jyotisha can be better understood in sanskrit or derivatives of sanskrit. I am fortunate that my mother toungue malayalam( a young language,telugu being the youngest) is a derivative of sanskrit and tamil.Thus this helps me a lot in understanding sanskrit terms.I am in the process of learning sanskrit. One more example which i can quote is german(Indo european family).The place where i am living currently has german as language.Thus when i was trying to learn german i could find that thinking in hindi or malayalam was better to learn german than in english.Simple example - in english we say thirty five and hindi we say paYinthees.In english we put thirty before five and in hindi we put 5 before thirty.In German it is similar to hindi.Similarly lots of grammatical usages. Thus the advise from Chandrashekhar ji and yourself are valid.I have understood a bit of shadbalas from BPHS.I have only books from Dr.Raman at the moment will get other useful books as well.Thanks again. The name of my mother is derived from a hindu god/goddess!!!! How did you find this out????? But one question: You say that Jupiter is strong, free of afflictions. It is in a kendra and 10th house from the moon. So it forms a Amala Yoga. And it is a Amala yogakaraka. Does this mean that it looses the bad effects of it being a functional malefic? So is this statement right :" A strong planet, well placed, having no bad aspects on it and forming a benefic yoga will give good effects even if it is a functional malefic" Please help me clarify these issues.
