Guest guest
I want to know that once you recite mantra's are you supposed to give up meat like chicken and fish? Does it have an effect on the mantra if you are a veg or non-veg? Do mantra's lose their power if one is a non-vegetarian? sv
Guest guest
Dear sv, Manthras are recited to please God and also rid ourself of shad ripus or weaknesses. If meat is consumed, it undoubtedly adds bad karma and also pushes the person into deep ignorance. Meat is classified as tamasic and the killing of the living entity(animal) is equal to murder of a human being( there is no distinction in the scriptures and the person in the next birth will get a body where such meat eating is the norm--like that of a carnivorous animal). So in summation bad karma and increase in tamasic guna is never conducive and its advisable to stop such habits for best results of any manthra or no manthra even. Guest guest
|Hare Rama Krishna| Dear SV, It depends on the mantra, but yes it’s highly recommended to become a vegetarian, as most Mantra’s are Sattvic and if you yourself are not sattvic, then how will God be convinced of your sincerity of the mantra? Now how does it depend? Take mantras for Jupiter. Since Jupiter is also known as Jeeva, then reciting mantras for it and at the same time being responsible for the killing of life is a direct insult towards God… Not only will the mantra not reap its fruits, but you will also realize some suffering due to this. In this manor you can understand the effects of mantras. Guest guest
My problem is that plant has a life too. being a vegetarian, one will sacrifice the plant. In plant, there are also lower and higher forms like animal. so do you think being a vegetarian one could by pass the law of nature. I am already in your debt. Guest guest
Dear Visti ji, I don't think your logic here is right. Even plants have lives they may not have blood of red colour and may not be moving, but they grow as animals or human beings grow. The only difference here is we have legs to move around where as plants are just grounded in one place. Plants do give out liquid in some colour it may be either colourless or green, why can't that be called as blood?? If the plants did'nt have lives then they would'nt be growing in any form. When a woman goes through an abortion it is due to a reason that child in a womb is not growing or is not having life. This child in a womb is like a seed which may or may not grow into a plant even after taking care. Just becos we as human have defined these defnitions as moola, jeeva, etc (which is to suit our convenience)that does not mean the vegetables, plants, fruits or flowers don't have lives. If anyone in the group has more information/knowledge then please do share it with us. Guest guest
Dear Bhavesh, I think Visti is off to India, so I will give a short reply here. In Bible, Genesis part, God says to mankind that one can eat that which is growing out of the Earth. Only later He allows man to eat meat, when man cannot control the urges of the tongue. In Vaisnava culture also, man is advised to eat only vegetables, and yes, as you say, they are also alive, so as Vaisnavas we make an offering to Bhagavan and eat the remnants as prasada, His mercy. In that way, there is no sin involved in eating. Otherwise, like the Bhagavad-gita says, man eats only sin. Vistiji, if you read this, happy birthday wishes to you! Yours, Dhira Krsna dasa, Jyotisha http://www.radhadesh.com
