Guest guest
Dear Sarajit, >My next question would be how we know that they hardly realise (or do >not realise) that they are living. Bhagavad-gita mentions that there are 3 stages of consciousness being covered in the material world. It is compared, to dust on a mirror, smoke, and the womb. So the first explains that one can still see one's spiritual identity, but not that well, due to the dust. Then in smoke one cannot see one's spiritual identity anymore, and in the womb one is not aware of the outside world, and is imbedded deeply in ignorance. This compares to the 3 modes of material nature, goodness, passion and ignorance. The more the spiritual soul identifies with matter (which is dead - not living) the more it sinks deeper into ignorance and takes the form of lower species of life. Kasim has also nicely explained this further. Yes, the universe has a soul, we know Him as Lord Brahma. And all planets have a soul as well. Surya, the Sun god, Chandra, the Moon god, Brhaspati - Jupiter, Sukracarya - Venus and so on. Ultimately everything is spiritual, and personal, but due to the external energy of the Supreme, identification with this matter (which is only another seperated energy) makes us believe there is no God and only matter. Guest guest
|| Jaya Jagannath || Dear Dhira, Namaste Please give me the slokas from Gita for my further study. You have explained well, but I want to know more. I am pondering... do all living things know that they are living! Do the non-living things realise that they have a soul? Guest guest
Dear Sarajit, >Please give me the slokas from Gita for my further study. Chapter3 text 38: "As fire is covered by smoke, as a mirror is covered by dust, or as the embryo is covered by the womb, the living entity is similarly covered by different degrees of this lust." I will not type up the whole purport by Srila Prabhupada, but he explains therein that the fire covered by smoke represents the human beings, the mirror covered by dust represents birds end beasts, and the embryo, who is helpless, to trees, who are almost devoid of consciousness.
