Guest guest
Dear respected Gurus & Members, The following article written by Dr. M.L. Gupta throws some light on the "Badhaka Planets Thread". Hope this helps. With sincere regards, Prakash Kandpal What is Badhaka? and don't worry about it... BY DR.M.L.GUPTA The so called badhaka lord for a particular lagna should only be treated as an actual badhaka, if it simultaneously be the lord of the house tenanted by Mandi (Gulika) or Kharesha (Lord of 22nd drekkana from the lagna). Badhaka means obstruction, hurdle, restriction etc. Many astrologers give much importance to badhaka and declare them to be the signification of misfortunes. The badhaka is said to accomplish his work by obstructing the flow of auspicious results and giving obstacles instead. They are of the opinion that all the planets posited in a badhaka house, combined with and / or aspected by badhaka house lord also behave as badhaka. The badhaka planet destroys the significations of the houses and the planets to whom it owns, combines or aspect along with its karakatwas. The badhaka planet during its Dasha and Bhukti gives to the native a hard and miserable life; Badhakasthana is defined as a house of harm in stanza 111 to 113 in part one of PRASNA MARGA. SIGNS Badhaka (obstacle) MOVEABLE Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn 11th House and its lord. FIXED Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius 9th House and its lord. DUAL Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces 7th House and its Lord. But according to sloka 48 of Adhyaya II in JATAKA PARIJATA, it is stated that the 11th house, its owner and the planets posited in 11th house for moveable signs lagna, the 9th house, its lord and planets in the 9th house for fixed signs Lagna, and the 7th house, its lord and the planets in 7th house for the dual signs lagna should only be treated as badhaka if the lord of the said house simultaneously be the lord of the house tenanted by Mandi (Gulika) or Karesha i.e. the lord of 22nd drekkana from the lagna. FOR MOVEABLE SIGNS Keeping the above in mind, let us discuss the so called badhaka houses in the light of general rules of astrology. As stated above, the 11th house, lord of the 11th and the planets in the 11th house for moveable signs lagna are supposed to act as badhaka. But at the same time 11th is also an UPACHAYA STHANA, or house of growth which is good for wealth but may be adverse for health. All planets located in the 11th house, if not afflicted bestows wealth and prosperity to the native. As said if the 11th house and its lord are well disposed and under benefic influence, they will give rise to SUPARI JATA YOGA which makes the native wealthy, prosperous, learned, with good earnings and large family. On the other hand, if the 11th house and its lord are ill placed under affliction from malefics, DARIDRA YOGA comes into picture with the results of poverty, ill health, heavy debts, etc.. Accepting the badhaka concept means that all moveable signs lagna born people should be bereft of earning, wealth, prosperity, happiness of elder co-borns, fulfillment of desires etc. This is not true and practical in experiences.! FOR FIXED SINGS According to badhaka theory the 9th house, lord of the 9th house and the planets posited in 9th house are supposed to behave as badhaka for fixed sign lagna born natives. As we know the 9th house (or Lakshmishtana) is the best trinal house in a horoscope representing luck, general prosperity, Gods grace, religion, spiritualism etc. Nothing can be enjoyed in this world without luck. Moreover, Lord of 9th house is always auspicious whether it is a natural benefic or malefic planet, and for fixed sign lagna native, the lord of 9th is the most benefic planet or yogakaraka planet. How can one believe that a yogakaraka planet should be treated as badhaka planet unless it is ill placed or afflicted? Further when the 9th house and its lord are well disposed under benefic influence it will produce Bhagya Yoga which makes the native fortunate and prosperous in all respects. But affliction of 9th house and its lord on the other hand will give rise to Nirbhagya yoga which makes one poor, irreligious, fortune less, etc. Therefore it is baseless to think that without affliction the 9th house and its lord will act as badhaka. Moreover it is not possible that fixed signs lagna people are born with out fortune, prosperity, prestige, position, well being of father etc. FOR DUAL SIGNS As per badhaka concept, the 7th house, its lord and planet located in 7th house will prove badhaka for dual sign lagna people. The 7th house indicating spouse, partner, marriage, married life, profession, contracts etc. is an angular or auspicious house but it is also a maraka house. As we know, ownership of a kendra forces a planet to lose its inherent nature i.e. to say that a natural benefic loses its suspiciousness and a natural malefic loses its evils on owning an angle. In case of dual sign lagna the 7th house always belongs to a natural benefic. Hence there are two defects with the 7th house. One is of kendradhipatya dosha and the other is death inflicting or maraka dosha. However, when the 7th house and its lord are well disposed under benefic influence there will be KAMA YOGA making the concerned person wealthy, prosperous, happy progressing more than his father, enjoys married life with a virtuous spouse and children. But if the 7th house and its lord are ill placed and afflicted, then DUSHKIRT YOGA arises which is detrimental to ones spouse and marital life, making one licentious and adulterous with others wives, etc. Now if we take the 7th house and its lord as badhaka for dual sign lagna people then all these people should be bereft of either marriage or happy married life. How can one digest this fact which is against experiences and convictions. In Jataka Parijata we find that there is an additional condition for a house or planet to be a badhaka. The badhaka lord for a particular lagna should only be treated as an actual badhaka, if it simultaneously the lord of the house tenanted by Mandi (Gulika) or Kharesha (Lord of 22nd drekkana from the lagna). This definition has some sense in it because Mandi (or Gulika) the son of Saturn is a great malefic while kharesha which also known as chhidra Graha is a dire malefic as 22nd decanate falls in the 8th house from the lagna. These two planets always give adverse results to the native. Therefore, the concept of house of harm or badhaka as described in Prasna Marga is applicable to only horory astrology and not in natal astrology. More over there are certain other factors which act as badhaka under certain circumstances. Saturn, the natural malefic and the signification of delay, obstruction, etc. seems to be a natural badhaka, particularly when adverse for a nativity and afflicted. The lord of 6th, 8th and 12th usually produce obstacles in progress We can see that any lord under malefic influence usually obstruct the flow of good results. Therefore, we should not fear about the badhaka concept by giving undue importance to it because any planet under adverse circumstances may behave as badhaka regarding its good results of ownership, placement and karakatwas. Guest guest
||Om Brihaspataye Namah|| Dear Prakash, Good post. I have one doubt however. "The so called badhaka lord for a particular lagna should only be treated as an actual badhaka, if it simultaneously be the lord of the house tenanted by Mandi (Gulika) or Kharesha (Lord of 22nd drekkana from the lagna)." What if the badhaka lord is placed in a house also tenanted by Mandi or Gulika? The house in question is not lorded by the badhaka lord. Eg: For Sc (fixed), Cn is the badhak house and its lord, Mo is placed in Sg which also has Mandi or Gulika. regards Hari
