Dear Jyotishas,

Sometime back there was an interesting thread on nimittas. I wish to

narrate my own experience yesterday evening which happened around 6

pm.

I am a researcher working at an university here and I felt a need to

take some snacks. So I went to the ground level (my office is on the

5th level) and took some snacks from a vending machine nearby. When

returning back to the lift lobby area, my nose was assailed by a

familar smell similar to the fragrance generated by putting crushed

incense powder on burning, glowing hot coals (you will get some

fragrant smoke also). Now I got very curious to know where that

smell is coming from and struggled in vain to locate the source of

that smell. This fragrant smoke offering is normally done only for

poojas and in temples and therefore I thought it very strange that

this smell should come in a busy university area! It is not possible

but I could smell it distinctly for a minute or so. Later that

night, in my pooja area, instead of lighting agarbathi (long incense

sticks) as I normally do, I chose to light the same instant incense-

coal plug which gives the same smell!!

Now my question is: can strange and unexpected smells be taken as

nimittas also? If the answer is Yes, how are they to be interpreted?

How would you interpret the experience I had described? Have you had

similar experiences also?

regards

Hari
