Guest guest
visit - circular-reality/ Pisces Full Moon - September 10, 2003 by Stephanie Austin, M.A. Click here for chart. The charts for this lunation is set on the natural wheel with 0° Aries rising. All references to Sabian symbols are from Dane Rudhyar, An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and Its 360 Symbolic Phases, New York: Vintage Books, 1973. None of the Full Moons have been easy this year, and this one continues to push the evolutionary envelope. The good and bad news is that Pluto very closely squares this Full Moon – good news for change, bad news for the old order. Full Moons bring light into the dark and increase our awareness of what has been dormant or denied. The unconscious is Pluto’s home turf, and flushing out the shadow is his specialty. So, this Full Moon, more than most, forces us to face what seems dark – our fears, our devils, the unknown – and to get to the truth. Pluto’s bottom line is: Just let go. Letting go is easier to do when we remember that something else will come. Pluto teaches us that every ending is also a beginning, that there is no real death, only transformation, the constant interplay of energy and form. And this Full Moon challenges us to remember that, even when everything seems to be falling apart, something else is coming together. The Full Moon peaks at 17°34' Virgo-Pisces, squaring Pluto at 17°17' Sagittarius. The Sabian symbols for these three positions provide important messages. For 18° Virgo: "A ouija board … a stage of transition which stresses a passive openness to the unknown … the first manifestation of inner guidance." The image of the Ouija board reminds us that, as we explore new levels of perception, we still need to use good judgment and discernment. In regard to channeling the "spirits," a wise friend once told me: "Just because they’re dead doesn’t mean they’re smart." Mercury at 18° Virgo conjunct the Sun would agree; use that left brain to evaluate what’s coming in from the right. Venus at 24° Virgo casts her vote for sensibility as well, while Jupiter, just beginning his yearly stay in Virgo, reminds us that wisdom and prosperity come from paying attention to the details. The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 18° Pisces illustrates how collective events can bring us together: "In a gigantic tent, villagers witness a spectacular performance … which subtly strengthens the communal spirit directly or indirectly." For Pluto at 18° Sagittarius: "Children playing on the beach, their heads protected by sunbonnets; the protection society affords to as yet immature individuals as they begin to deal with the powerful energies of their unconscious nature." Both of these images remind us of the power of play, but also the importance of distinguishing and dealing with larger forces and realities. As we mature individually and as a species, we become less dependent on religious or cultural dictates and more capable of deciding for ourselves what is right and true. This is exactly what Pluto strives to do as he excavates the shadow side of Sagittarius from 1995 to 2008. Note how 18° Virgo, Pisces, and Sagittarius activate your natal chart. The Virgo Sun illuminates where you need to be less critical yet more discerning. Where the Pisces Moon falls in your chart is where you need more acceptance and compassion. And Pluto’s placement shows where you need to question and release old beliefs in order to move forward. Pluto is also about power, and two other aspects ask us to examine how we use (or misuse) power. Uranus, the Cosmic Wildcard, continues to track close to Mars, inspiring the God of War to find innovative ways of accomplishing his goals. A few days after this Full Moon, on September 14, Uranus makes one last dip back into Aquarius, prodding us to keep speaking out for social justice and joining our voices with others. Chiron, the archetype of the Wounded Healer, has been retrograde in Capricorn since April 25, giving us time to examine how we deal with authority, boundaries, and resources. Chiron stations direct on September 17 at 12° Capricorn, signaling that it’s time to act on what we have learned since he stationed retrograde almost five months ago at 18° Capricorn. His ongoing opposition to Saturn reinforces the cosmic message to be more realistic and responsible. This Full Moon presents some tough choices, but with a little reflection, what you need to do next becomes clear. Take the plunge, and do it – for yourself and for the world. © 2003 Stephanie Austin — all rights reserved Stephanie Austin, M.A., is a full-time astrological counselor specializing in transitions, career, and life purpose readings.
