I have one more doubt and hope you do not mind answering me :-) Should the Durga Mantra be "Om Dum Durgayei Namaha" or "Om Dum Durgaya Namaha"?Best regards, Tanvir "What can not happen, can never happen.Which is mine, is forever mine." In general, remember the following thumbrules. (1) If a masculine word ends with "a", make it "aaya". Examples: raama->raamaaya, krishna->krishnaaya, naaraayaNa->naaraayaNaaya, siva->sivaaya (2) If a feminine word ends with "aa" (long a), make it "aayai". Examples: durgaa->durgaayai, ramaa->ramaayai, umaa->umaayai, taaraa->taaraayai (3) If a masculine word ends with "i", make it "aye". Examples: hari->haraye, ravi->ravaye, sani->sanaye, atri->atraye (4) If a feminine word ends with "ee" (long i), make it "yai". Examples: gauree->gauryai, maatangee->maatangyai, lakshmee->lakshmyai, paarvatee->paarvatyai (5) If a masculine word ends with "u", make it "ave". Examples: guru->gurave, vishNu->vishNave, raahu->raahave There are many other cases, but the above 5 cases cover 90% of common names that you get in simple mantras. Guest guest
Jaya Jagannatha! Dear Tanvir, Namaste. - Tanvir vedic astrology Tuesday, April 29, 2003 5:25 PM [vedic astrology] Narayana Mantra Dear List, I was searching the net for Narayana Mantra and I got a little confused by what I got from different sites - Om Namo Narayanaye NamahaOM Namo NarayanaOm Namo Narayanaya Of these three, only the last one is grammatically correct. The first two are declined improperly. Another one would be Om Narayanaya Namah, where only the order differs. Narasimha Purana has a very good section explaining the effects of this mantra. I hope to upload this soon to my website. Yours, Gauranga Das Vedic Astrologer gauranga (AT) brihaspati (DOT) net Jyotish Remedies: WWW.BRIHASPATI.NET Phone:+36-309-140-839 So are all of them correct? Guest guest
Pranaam Gauranga Prabhu, > Om Namo Narayanaye Namaha> OM Namo Narayana> Om Namo Narayanaya> > Of these three, only the last one is grammatically correct. > The first two are declined improperly. I too think the 3rd one is right, but I disagree that other two are grammatically incorrect. They are not as beautiful and complete, but still grammatically ok. (1) Om namo narayanaya namah = we bow to Narayana, we bow. (repetition unneeded, but not wrong) (2) Om namo narayana = O Narayana, we bow (to whom? it's not clear. but it is grammatically ok). (3) Om namo narayanaya = we bow to Narayana So, grammatically speaking, all the three versions are ok.
