To Jagmeet..

I was very happy to hear of your question.

For, when I was growing up I went to my church, a nice Episcopalian

concern,

and I always thought how strange that we would only be good for one

day of the week, and what about the rest of the time?

So, automatically, when I got to my college age, I thought 'what can

I do to make my religious or spiritual life more personal...

and I came across meditation...

Mediation is a wonderful, time honored tradition of making our spirituality,

personal.....at 'at home'....

And for a long time, I didn't have anything more formal than just a regular

place to meditate.

Later, still I heard that it's good to meditate in approximately the same place,

because the 'vibrations' of that....

tend to last.... if supported in that way...

And my experience bears that out...

Whenever I don't live in a kind of place where I can have an exclusively, private,

and personal space to 'commune' with Nature...

then many other things.... tend to invade in...

Then, I started to notice, over the years, that there started to be a

sponstaneous kind of quietness around the regular place that I chose for meditating...

And a little longer, still, I started to notice that I loved having a whole room associated

with my spiritual practices...

and then...sometime later...

I realized...my space, or 'room', if there was enough space,

had become a kind of shrine...

and I had pictures of my favorite Saints or God...

and yes, incense...

And so yes, I think it is very significant at having a home, temple...

But, what's much more important than having all the rituals, associated with it...

is have the spiritual 'realities'...of deep meditation,

and Silence...

and that's the true temple!

That ol' Christian expression takes on more relevance now...

'the body is the temple of the soul'!!!!

[vedic astrology] To have a temple at home or not

Fri, Aug 29, 2003, 11:36 AM

Dear friends,

1)With reasons please let me know if one should have temple at home in any

form like a temple on house premises/separate room/a corner of a

room/cupboard/kitchen(depending on the size of the house) .

2)If yes, should one have photos of various deities or should it be idols(if

idols of what size should they be) or symbols like shivalinga/saligram etc?

3)If possible,advantages/disadvantages of having and not having a temple at home

for spiritual growth.

Thanks and with regards,

Jagmeet

P.S.Personally I am coming round to not having a temple at home. At least one

can avoid the deity curses on self /family and descendents. Just go and pray at

the various religious places without asking or hoping for gains of any kind will

go further in all round positive growth.
