Guest guest
Dear Guru's and Leanred Members, I am trying to understand the concept of Combustion. Please take the following example of the planet positions and clarify for me what planets are combust. I also remember reading somewhere, Venus in direct motion, since the direction of rotation of Venus is the opposite as compared to other planets, hence Venus is not combust in this example. Am I correct ?. Also what other things one can see with these four planets together as they are in 7th house, I mean combust and non combust pint of view. Sun - 22 Sg 19' Moon - 21 Sg 17' Venus - 17 Sg 18' Mars - 16 Sg 17' Thanks for your help in clarifying my doubt. Regards Rao
Guest guest
Except that of Rahu and Ketu, the rest of the planets such as Mercury, Venus, Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn undergo combustion with Sun at 11 degrees, nine degrees, twelve degrees, seventeen degrees, fifteen degrees and seventeen degrees respectively. Hence calculated with rest to Sun accordingly. Yours sincerely A. Ramani. I guess you refer to 'planetary war' which appears when two planets are close to each other- stronger of two planets wins the 'war'. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply. I did not know that Mars cannot be combust. I have seen some people making horoscopes and when Sun is with Mars they annotate it by stating Mars is combust. It seems otherwise from the discussion here. So I would think that if this happens in Leo then Sun is more powerful as it is in its own house. However, if Mars was also the yogakaraka person may want to strengthen it to get benefits of the yogakaraka. Guest guest
Om Namo Narayanaya, Dear Rajiv and Anna, One among Mangal names is "Vakra" or retrograde. Since all grahas in retrograde motions except Venus cannot be combust, some astrologers opine that Mars cannot be combust too. Even though this is found to be true in many cases, it is my personal opinion that this rule should be still taken with a pinch of salt.. Guest guest
Dear Zoran Ji, Thanks for mentioning that, that is what exactly, I have asked in my orginal question, when I have started this thread. I do not remember, where I have read, but this is what my memory says, may be one of the Sanjay ji's messages, I have found in our archives says this: "Combustion of Venus and Mercury cannot occur if they are in front of the Sun as their rays can reach the earth without obstruction. Thus, even if within the orb of combustion, Mercury (and all planets) in retrograde motion and Venus in direct motion (since the direction of rotation of Venus is the opposite as compared to other planets) are not combust." Guest guest
||Om Brihaspataye Namah|| Dear Rao, That brings us to the next question: How to say whether a planet is in front of or behind the Sun? Ditto for any other planetary combo:- if two planets are lined up at the same position (nirayana longitude), does one planet behind the other really matter? I suppose retrograde has something to do with whether it is in front of or behind the Sun. But I cannot visualize it geometrically. Related to Venus' direction of rotation, there is one more question but I will leave that for another time! regards Hari vedic astrology, "Rao Nemani" <raonemani> wrote: > Dear Zoran Ji, > > Thanks for mentioning that, that is what exactly, I have > asked in my orginal question, when I have started this thread. > > I do not remember, where I have read, but this is what my memory > says, may be one of the Sanjay ji's messages, I have found in > our archives says this: > > "Combustion of Venus and Mercury cannot occur if they are in > front of the Sun as their rays can reach the earth without > obstruction. Guest guest
Dear Marie-Christine, The figures suggest combuctions within certain degrees of Superior conjunctions. It does not suggest any change whether the Planet is retrograde or othewise. Regards, Chandrashekhar. Marie-Christine Sclifet [mcsclifet (AT) skynet (DOT) be]Sunday, August 31, 2003 7:00 PMTo: vedic astrologySubject: Re: [vedic astrology] Re: Question on Combustion.Dear all,If I may, I would like to interfer here about this combustion of Venus.According what I understood of the text of Sanjayji, Budha is combust whenit is direct because being behind Surya - and Sukra is combust whenretrograde because being behind the Sun.He explains that : "the direction of rotation of Venus is the opposite ascompared to other planets" and that's why Venus is direct whenin front of the Sun.It is true that Venus has an opposite mouvement but we are talking here ofhis spin and not of his revolution around the Sun !In fact, Venus and Mercury are in front of Sun when retrograde, and directwhen behind the Sun.See the following link for the drawing of this situation :http://www.astro.columbia.edu/~lawrence/Figs/fig8a.gifIf I follow the logic that a planet cannot be combust when in front of theSun (in the orb of combustion), then Venus cannot be combust when retrogradebut only when direct like Mercury.I think that there is an other factor beside the fact of combustion infront or behind the Sun:1° - when a planet is behind the Sun, it has an obstruction (the rays of theplanet cannot reach Earth) - and in this case whe should take into accountthe longitude and latitude (of the said planet) in relation to the ecliptic(because the diameter of the Sun is only 0°30') .2° - when a planet is combust it is because the luminosity of the Sun do notallow to see the planet, for instance this just after sunset or just beforesunrise. The fact that the planet is retrograde or not doesn't changeanything. See link (drawing) :http://physics.hallym.ac.kr/education/oregon/imamura/121/images/morning_Merc.gifWhat think the venerable members of this list ?Best regards,Marie-Christine Sclifethttp://fr.astrologie-vedique/Below, some extracted from messages of this discussion.---------------le 30/08/03 5:10 (EET), onlyhari <onlyhari > a écrit :> That brings us to the next question: How to say whether a planet is> in front of or behind the Sun?
